Here's an article from the OCRegister. (http://www.ocregister.com/articles/cellar-adventure-sky-2196046-disney-park)

I find it interesting that they're keeping the swings.

And, I love the change to the ol' Sun Wheel.

However, with the makeover being all Disney character based, I want to know if they plan on keeping the name "Disney's California Adventure", because it's insinuated by the stuff inside the Blue Sky Cellar.

I just don't see what the park will have to do with California anymore.

Well, unfortunately, it will still be in California.

Except for the Little Mermaid ride ... YAWN.

Oh, and for those of you who think World of Color is going to be great ... picture Fantasmic without any live performers and tell me how fantastic such a Fantasmic would be.

World of Color is Fantasy Waters 2.0, right? ;)

It's interesting that they're going to try and solve their circulation problem by having guests trucked to the Tower of Terror area via trolley. I wonder if that will work? Also, I wonder if they're going to connect the ToT area to the new Carsland area. It looks like it might be possible...

I have a bad feeling that the World of Color show is going to be Fantasmic! lite. Or a Bellagio watershow with colored lights they're currently testing at the hotel waterfall area... Or maybe it will be the Dancing Waters 2.0 show.

I don't know how to feel about the Sun Wheel. "Just slap a Mickey head on it" doesn't sound like going all out to fix that area.

And, of course, the question that has been on everyone's mind, will they get rid of the Mission Tortilla Factory attraction? Only time will tell.

I hope the model is accurate in depicting no more "Blue Tubes of Stupid" on California Screamin'.

Ha. I didn't see that pic up close. A boardwalk all the way around the Mickey Head Sun Wheel. What a great idea.

I like the tortilla factory. Maseca!

My attitude is anything will be better than what it is currently.

Although, a good fix would include a bulldozer and starting over.

I really don't hate DCA. I think it has some really great elements. Unfortunately, those elements are not part of a really great cohesive whole, so I find myself going into DCA to partake of a particular attraction (and then leave), not to just spend time there as I do for Disneyland.

And no, simply adding in new attractions isn't going to fix that. But, I'm a bit optimistic. The changes suggested for the entry plaza, for example, including the trolley and whatnot, are what is needed to complete a transformation that would leave DCA a destination in and of itself, not just "the place where I can ride Toy Story Mania."

However, whether those changes will survive and be duplicated across the park remains to be seen.

It doesn't just need replacement attractions, it needs more attractions. It's only half a park.

I would like to pose the question of why they don't build multiple rides in the same structure (ala Toad, Alice & Pan), which seems to me to be the most efficient use of limited space.

Bleh to the Mickey Wheel. That sun was one of my favorite stylistic elements in the park. :(

innerSpaceman

It reminds you of that because that's exactly what it is. But it doesn't remind me of the seaside boardwalk they want to portray, any more than Maleficent's giant face on Sleeping Beauty Castle would remind me of a fairytale fortress.

I like getting rid of the "stylized" crap on California Screamin' - Mickey's head isn't a clothoid loop.

Ghoulish Delight
10-16-2008, 03:13 PM
Yeah, it's not that I don't like the image, I just don't like the image in that context. Pru put it well, a jumbled collection of decent to good elements does not equal a Disney-worthy whole.

I just want the Lusse Auto Scooter (http://www.lusseautoscooters.com/) that's used for a freakin' retail display in Paradise Pier, to go someplace where it will be appreciated... like my room :)

I like the image but I don't think it fits the theme. If the ride was in the middle of the park and it was going to be the icon, then it would look cool. But it doesn't fit in with the Boardwalk theme.

And, of course, the question that has been on everyone's mind, will they get rid of the Mission Tortilla Factory attraction? Only time will tell.Personally, I hope they don't. A couple of trips through and I have myself a free light dinner.

I think if they brought in the people planning events at the Edison as well as Lucient Dossier, they could have a good park.

I like DCA. I do agree that it's a collection of disparate elements, but I do like the idea and some of the bits. I wish they could tie things together, and maybe not so much Pixar.

I'm planning to check out the Preview Center on Tuesday. I thought it was open already so I guess it's a good thing I didn't have time to get there earlier. My source says it's set up really nice (the art studio setting). And my sources are very excited about the new plans but of course they're kind of biased.

Having just returned from Disneyland Paris I now realize that DCA is brilliantly executed in comparison to the Studios park. Of course that could be continued burn out talking since I was pretty bored with the Disneyland Park as well (some good rides but we didn't feel any need to linger and our 1.5 days there will probably near-permanently cross DLP off the list of places to go).

Nope, not burnout. It's stunning how bad Studios is.

Nothing. That lake is purely backup. That's why it took so long to get the subs back open, they couldn't drain the sub lagoon until they were sure the DCA lake system was properly routed to keep the Matterhorn afloat with the lagoon empty. To reduce long term wear on the lake, the lake does act as the cooling system for Walt's frozen head, however the sub lagoon is still perfectly capable of maintaining both systems on its own during this work.

So I went to check out the new display over at DCA and as I walked up they were letting people in but when I got to the CM she put up her hand and said "You haven't waited yet, so hold on here" and she pulled the rope across. Then she said it would be another 10 to 15 min.

I walked away. I didn't have to see it that badly- unless it was a presentation of what the new parking lot is going to look like once they pave over DCA. Stupid bitch CM.

Wow. I'm not holding my breath on the execution, but conceptually I think I rather like what they have planned. If they can successfully pull off the theme I think it'll work really well. If.

Of course, it also occurred to me that it's Great Depression era. This certainly seems as good a time as any to bring that back.

Interesting. What a benefit that could be to Disney. They could cut the number of food service employees by about 80% causing massive lines and call it themeing.

Perhaps she was afraid you would use up all of the oxygen in the room, causing the guests to pass out. Then she wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the oxygen deprived guests and the ones gazing lethargically at the display.
