I may have to see this one. We saw 'City of Ember' the other day and when we were leaving the theater we noticed the posterboard for 'W'. The catchline was something like "A Life Misunderestimated"* :D
*(Firefox spell check has a helluva time with W'isms).

I'll probably wait for video like we do pretty much everything - but it looks like it's got the potential to be really funny.

omg, i want to see this sooo badly. BUT ... why oh why does it have to come out now? I'm so tied up until the end of the month.
Anyone up for maybe an election day eve screening??? Seems like a perfect way to end the W. era.

Reviews are saying it's nicer to W than you'd expect. A surprisingly sympathetic portrayal. (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/w_2008/) And only at 62%, hmm, though that's up from yesterday.
If it's too nice it won't be any fun

I'm surprised. Oliver Stone was none to kind in his remarks about Bush on Bill Mahrer's show last Friday.

Eh, I imagine those reviews are from people who think that the fact the Stone didn't cast a chimpanzee as the lead was sympathetic.

Bad review in local paper. Says supporting performances are on SNL caricature level. Which could be fun.

I'm interested in seeing it at some point. I'm not sure if I'll be going out this weekend to see it.
I am curious to see how George W Bush is portrayed. However (and this is why this thread is in the Daily Grind) I believe that history should remember him as our nation's worst leader and not as some good 'ol boy buffoon.
It also seems weird to make a biographical story about someone who's still in office. It seems like there may be more material to showcase about the man in the upcoming years. Or maybe Stone is keeping that for a sequel: W. Electric Boogaloser.

I'm not nuts about giving my money to Oliver Stone. Maybe I'll netflix it.

The clip I saw on Rachel Maddow's show featured Cheney as played by Richard Dreyfuss. Frighteningly accurate portrayal. I probably won't see it, because why would I want to reinforce something I'd rather forget as soon as possible?

I'll probably wait until it comes out on video. We'll see. It'll probably just make me cry- too close to reality! Though it does have a couple of good names in it, so I might see it for that.

I'm still up for an Election Day Eve viewing, if anyone would care to join me.

Anyone? Bueller? Monday Night, November 3. The night before Bush gets booted out of office.

Oh, it's the long kick. But the boot starts swinging on November 5 ... when he first knows how much the kick will smart.
I daresay if it's the democrat ... and the black man at that ... the kick will smart quite rightly.

It'll take a lot more than a kick to smart him.

Then let's give him many kicks.
Even after he's down.

Seriously. Just like how the Republicans blame everything bad that happened with W. on Bill Clinton, we can blame anything bad that happens with Obama on ol' Georgie.
Of course, in our case, it'll be true. But still. ;)

I am not convinced any amount of anything would "smart" him. Or embiggen his soul.

So, in keeping with my plan to bid adieu tonight to 8 miserable years of Dubya .... I will be seeing the 7:10 p.m. show of Oliver Stone's W. this evening at The Bridge in West L.A. ... if anyone cares to join ...

Alas, we would but we have to clean for that impromptu election party we're hosting.
