Do you dream in black and white? If so, the chances are you are over 55 and were brought up watching a monochrome television set.

New research suggests that the type of television you watched as a child has a profound effect on the colour of your dreams.

While almost all under 25s dream in colour, thousands of over 55s, all of whom were brought up with black and white sets, often dream in monchrome - even now.

I dream in "StoatAVision", where the colour scheme is blue for men, pink for women and...oh wait, that's right there are no children - if there were, it'd be classified as a nightmare.

And when I'm pissed, all I can see is a test pattern. Two of them.

That's bizarre. I'm 46 and my dreams are full color, taste, smell, sound. The story makes me wonder if pre-TV folks dreamt in staticky radio, and if their parents dreamt in cloud formations and fire!

Really? People dream in black and white? Hard to believe, unless they're color-blind.

My dreams vary in what elements are there. Usually I see snapshots with a backstory. If there is color or lack, it means something.

My dreams are THX certified. ;)

A few years ago I had a dream that was so real I actually felt the rain falling on me. The dream was really more of a nightmare. I was one of a few people that refused to let these giant robots take me to another planet. I knew it was a trap & all the people were being sent to their deaths. I was hiding underground w/ a few other rebels. Eventually the robots came looking for me & the others. I was the last to be captured. I was running in the rain from an attack, when one of them landed right infront of me. Several others surrounded me. I knew there was no way out. A door opened at the bottom of the left foot of the robot infront of me. I fell to my knees and hung my head low, knowing I failed to protect my life. When I woke up there was a part of my arm that felt wet. I looked at it but it was dry. I touched it with my hand and my arm gave off this really weird vibrating sensation and the wet feeling went away.

Oh, and it was in color.

I remember during my childhood hearing that most people dream in black and white. It was repeated as if it were commonly known, and I felt special because my dreams were not only in technicolor, they were often in Disney-like animation, frequently starring Baloo.

According to the article that was true until about 1960. Now they figure 85% of dreams are in color.

I'm 49, and even though I did watch a lot of black and white I am pretty sure my dreams have always been in color. Except the time I drempt I was Ed Wood.......

Does this mean that prior to the 1940s people dreamed in radio? And the post-Civil War generation dreamed in telegraph beeps?
