Hey everyone,

I want to attempt to set up a domain style network for my house. It's been impossible trying to maintain a Workgroup with the difference of machines we have running here (Windows and Mac) and trying to keep all the user accounts organized. I was thinking Linux for the server. Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial for this?

Thanks
Sean

Well, I have access to a copy of Server 2000, but I would rather go with Linux, because the server I have isn't powerful enough to run Active Directory and all that (450 MHz PIII with 128 MB RAM). Also, I want it to play nice with my Mac, which Linux will probably do moreso than Windows. However, if I can't figure out Linux, I will fall back to Windows. (I can't believe I just said that...)

Thanks, Name. That site looks awesome.

that server is plenty beefy enough to handle AD, DNS and file & Print. Sure, some file access might be slow, but for AD authentication, DNS resolution, DHCP addressing, it is completely fine for Server 2000. Trust me, ive run Server 2000 on less...

The Mac will play night with the Windows Server 2000 anyways, if its a newer version of Mac OS, you dont even need to use IPX/SPX just use basic TCP/IP
