Mine said "you can't stop love - this fight isn't over."
I tried very hard to condense the message we wanted into two signs for Tom and I, but I couldn't do it. The gist was:
Sign one
When we win this fight, our straight marriage will not be invalidated
Sign two
It will feel more valid when our friends also have the right to marry

I'm working on my Best Sign To Date for tonight, so I really hope I make it.
Sigh, I wish I could give you some good ideas ... but this one barely came to me in time for me to be late again to work not nearly finished making it.
Ooooh, you could use the one I LOVE, but found counterproductive to a positive potential side-effect of me attending so many of these protests.
WHAT DOES MY MARRIAGE HAVE TO DO WITH YOURS?
A great slogan, funny, to the point, eloquent .... but implied that I wasn't single. NOT what I want to do in the only recent situations where I'm around tons of new gay men. ;)
ETA: I see Sac posted a similar suggestion, but I think mine (actually Ghoulish Delight's) is slightly better.

Well, you know it's a Simpsons reference, right? But I don't know where it came from. I said to iSm at the protest that I wanted to carry a sign that said 'Ban Itchy & Scratchy'. It would be fun to see people laugh at it. I have a habit of getting too serious sometimes so I have to laugh at myself or whatever I'm dealing with from time to time.
Besides, Itchy demonstrates time and time again cruelty to the feline population. As a mouse, he should oppose the idea of persecuting others for mice and rats are the target of many humans trying to rid the world 'of his kind'.

Polygamy = traditional marriage?
Yesterday I liked the "But I Only Want To Marry ONE Woman!", but that works better at the MORMON Church...
You can marry multiple people and I can't marry one?Personally, I think that the ones referencing polygamy will have a greatly diminished effect. While yes, there are some in the church (mainly separatist sects) who DO still believe in polygamy, the LDS church officially is against it. IMO, it makes one appear less edumucated.
Just my $0.02 on the topic

My point was (I did not express it) the "generalized view" of Mormonism brings up polygamy. Even though the LDS has formally disavowed it. They are still identified as polygamists. So, traditional marriage!
Much like the generalization of the truly misinformed and/or ignorant that gays are abberant sexual deviants and should not have rights to marry or adopt cause the're all pedophiles and sickos.
You would think, after all this time, the Mormon Church would still recognize and remember what it is all about to be persecuted.
I'm still baffled why people are threatened by the marriage thing anyway, a good thing, I think.

I LOVE MY NEW SIGN.
It's not snarky like my other signs, but cleverly and artistically expresses my overwhelming sadness and disappointment in my once-beautiful California.
Haha, from the man who brought you costume changes ... at a Halloween Costume Party .... I now will have a new sign for every protest, so that I don't have to wear the same sign twice.
How Gay Is That?!?
* * * * *
As for the polygamy angle when protesting the Mormons, I'm sticking with it (and yes, my old sign ... today's will likely be my last new one). A vital part of my conversation with my Mormon friends about Prop 8 was an analogy to their dislike of society's foisting a definition of marriage upon them ... even though neither of them support polygamy.
They had to admit to me that they reviled the concept of the United States codifying in law a definition of marriage that was contrary to their own. And though they would not admit the short leap from there to their own vote to codify a defintion of marriage for me and mine, I could see my small victory in their eyes.
Polygamy stays on the menu for me ... at any future Mormon protests - and I hope there are many.

The No On 8 signs are an instantly recognizable way of stating the position. When you see a bunch of people standing on a street corner, you can't tell what position they're taking until you're within reading distance UNLESS someone is holding one of the two already-known signs. You see the blue No On 8 sign, even beyond reading distance, you instantly know what position the protest takes.

Okay, so based on the "A recent poll shows that there is a 52.5% chance that you are a Bigot" sign, I had this idea:
"A recent poll shows that 48% of Californians think discrimination is totally gay"
After yesterday I'd like to remind people that if you use 8 in a word (such as H8 = HATE) then you don't need the T.
I saw a lot of signs with "H8TERS". For some reason that confused me every time.
For those in San Francisco, the one sign waver I didn't see yesterday was Frank Chu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Chu). I hope this doesn't mean he is anti-gay (I have seen him at pretty much every SF event I've ever gone to no matter how crowded).
