No, really. He distributed a memo to the staff of his Christmas film. (The Christmas film which sat in cans until it was released direct-to-video, mind you.) It contains a lot of ridiculous notes, some malpropisms, and LOVE.

Most important concept of all -- THE CONCEPT OF LOVE. Perhaps we could make large posters that simply say "Love this movie" and post them about.

Vanity Fair got hold of it and posted it (http://www.vanityfair.com/online/culture/2008/11/14/thomas-kincades-16-guidelines-for-making-stuff-suck.html). They also include some interesting history of Kincaid, including the one time he got drunk at a Siegfried and Roy performance and repeatedly shouted "CODPIECE!" I only wish I was capable of making this stuff up.

I was also amused by some comments to the article, and found this one particularly insightful:

As a realist painter, I have always thought that the self-aggrandizing phrase “ The painter of light” was ridiculous. It’s like a baker saying he is “The baker that uses flour and eggs”!

Are the stories of Kinkade misbehavior new or just a rehash of what was in that LA Times article a couple of years ago (the one that had him peeing on a Winnie the Pooh plywood cutout at the Disneyland Hotel)?

A rehash, I believe. But I hadn't read that article, so it was news to me.

I saw the thread title and thought "this better be funny". And it is, thankfully. :D F'n Kinkade.

My opinion of Kincade's work is that once you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

I have never really cared for his art either. It seems very repetitive and safe.

I went into one of his galleries once becasue the Disneyland Print was there and the gal inside tried to convince me to buy it. I told her "I love Disneyland. But if I was going to have a piece of art in my house, I'd rather it be done by a Disney artist. Marc Davis, now there is an artist." I walked out after that.

We always joke about marketing hubby as "painter of dark."
