Does anyone have any experience in getting someone online in rural Mexico.

They do not have electricity - they use a generator. There is no phone service or cell phone coverage.

Is there such a thing as a satelite internet card?

Any other ideas?

Satellite internet might work, if they have coverage in that area. We use wild blue (http://www.wildblue.com/) in Colorado. There is a bit of latency, but it works fine for email/internet browsing.

There are global cell phones that also act as modems. And there are probably global broadband cards. I'm checking with my Verizon informant to see if they offer anything. I suspect AT&T and T-Mobile would since they are global companies, but the issue would be getting coverage in that area.

Several providers have satellite Internet (http://www.satellitefamily.com/satellite-internet.asp)service that should work in theory but cost might be a factor...

I would also add a good UPS (http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=13)to allow for power fluctuations from the generator.

I've experienced a blown notebook and a $25,000 projector due to a lack of power conditioning off of a genny.

Good advice on the UPS. Will make sure they do that.

Come on, say it... "I agree with Moonliner."

Come on, say it... "I agree with Moonliner."Moonliner was partially correct but he didn't emphasize the Power Conditioning aspect that is the more important aspect.

Power conditioning is implicit with the term "good UPS".
A UPS without power conditioning would be a bad ups.

You also failed to mention the value of a UPS in providing weight and holding the system down in a high wind environment.

I find it's important to shampoo your power before conditioning it.
