I saw some similarly kawaii cakes in a keki store in Ginza back in February.

NA, did you see the "Hairy Birthday, Lisa" cake in the original post?

Ewwwwww I wouldn't eat that birthday cake even if GusGus made it (and her cakes are GOOD!)

Nope, give me kawaii!

I'm not a fan of cake, either (actually I am a fan of cake but people are constantly ruining them by slathering in disgusting frosting) but those are nice to look at even if I'm guessing they'd taste awful with thick coasts of frosting. I think the Japanese bakery a couple blocks from here do fancy cakes like that (and possibly the Ranch 99 bakery).

A recent purchase reminds me of how much I love Carvel Ice Cream Cake. Let them eat ice cream cake, I say!

Those Japanese cakes are darling, and may not be too sweet, if compared to other Japanese pastries I've eaten.

I'd guess they're spongecake which is indeed good. The frosting are still generally not good (to me anyway).

Awesome. That seriously looks like someone ate the original cake, threw it up, and then decorated it.

I'm obsessed with fondant molding. I haven't done any yet, but I've been researching it. I was thinking of doing fondant-decorated cookie-pops as bows for the family packages... but I think I'm going to run out of time, alas.

If we mold of the sugar goo, count me in!

I won't promise anything until after the first of the year, but i think it would be a blast.

There's a bakery near work that sells these amazing brownie things with chocolate fondant. Every time I buy one I spend the first 10 minutes back at my desk carefully peeling off the fondant and throwing it away.

This one cracks me up, especially paired with her commentary:

Nothing helps smooth over those awkward early teen years quite like getting a cake with a half-naked stud-muffin on it from your parents, eh, Tracy? Just wait 'til your mom asks to go "halfsies" with you on a lap dance.

At least it's well-done! The icing is properly smooth, the picture looks like a person, and the lettering is spelled properly and legible. :)
