Alice Roosevelt Longworth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Roosevelt_Longworth)
When it came time for the Roosevelt family to move out of the White House, Alice buried a Voodoo doll of the new First Lady, Nellie Taft in the front yard.
She was such a character. I wish I could have met her....

An RNC with her attending is one I could get behind.

Love her!
Of her quotable quotations, her most famous found its way to a pillow on her settee: “If you can’t say something good about someone sit right here by me.”
A quote for Euro (from the Wiki page):
She ... proudly boasted in a 60 Minutes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/60_Minutes) interview with Eric Sevareid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Sevareid) broadcast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcasting) February 17, 1974, that she was a "hedonist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedonist)".

I might have to copy this serpent's name:
She smoked cigarettes in public, rode in cars with men, stayed out late partying, kept a pet snake named Emily Spinach (Emily as in her spinster aunt and Spinach for its green color) in the White House, and was seen placing bets with a bookie.
Hmmmm, so many possibilities! New username, something I might draw, a future pet's name...

Omg, I love her! I have read tons about her famous cousins, but I think I've only seen snippets about her. Gonna have to check out some bios......

So I just asked my hubby, who is a Roosevelt-history nut, about Alice...and he just laughed and said "you'd love her-what a pistol!" That's a great pic, too! I'm going to have to help myself to hubby's Roosevelt books...I've long planned to, but now I'm really eager!
And wow, when young she looks like she just walked out of a Sargent painting...

I noticed this book (http://www.amazon.com/What-Do-About-Alice-Roosevelt/dp/0439922313/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232034940&sr=8-2) a while ago. I had never heard of her before reading it. Great book for spunky girls. :)
