View Full Version : Let's Start This Year Over!

So far, 2009 hasn't been the best possible year. I can't even begin to list the challenges 2009 has presented to many of us so far.
When I'm having a particularly bad day, I have a little mind-warp trick I use that usually improves things. I just start the day over. So, I'm going to take the opportunity of the Chinese New Year and start the year over.
First Day of the Year of the Ox falls on 1/26/2009 or the year 4706 on the Chinese calendar.
Anyone with me?

Happy New Year, everyone!
(Now please ignore the news (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601085&sid=arJLWrwmMHOU&refer=europe) of Nokia's record low profit and expected job cuts, okay? If I close my eyes it's not happening. LA LA LA!)

Sounds good to me!
I'm an Ox too. :)
And, I recall 12 years ago how much stuff happened - it was a period of drastic positive growth and change for me. It's when I got out of a very bad marriage, moved halfway across the country, and landed a job at a television station. :) I'll so take another one of those years! (Well, minus the divorce and moving part, since I'm quite happy, thankyouverymuch.)

I'm in!
My boy is an ox too. Hopefully that means his year will improve also.
Not to trivialize anybody else's issues but so far the year has been pretty good to me (much better than it looked it would be four months ago).
So when you all reset the clock please let me keep my path so far. If it starts over it could easily go in a different direction.

But that does bring up a question I've wondered - can you use Nair down there? Or will you suffer chemical burns that strip your cooch of all it's goodness?

So, who's throwing the Chinese New Year party? (Monday night, is it?) Or should we all just go down to Chinatown to celebrate?

Good luck with the Ox Year, all, and I support your re-start efforts!

I'm serious about the Monday night bonfire thing. I could do with a little fun and burning/casting things upon the water, whatever.
I'll start a separate thread specifically for that so as not to get in the way of non-bonfire related Chinese New Year celebrations here :)

After extreme sickness at the beginning of the year most things have been great for me since. I've accomplished stuff I normally just worry over in January. But I'm in favor of resetting the clock as needed. One or two or three bad things are only one or two or three bad things and don't preclude the next thing being good.
Or even the best thing ever.

My Chinese client just left. She brought us a bag of traditional oranges for luck, as well as red envelopes with some cash that we're to put under our pillows for the rest of this week. They're pretty too - with golden luck symbols and an Ox on them. :)

I think the put under your pillow is optional. Fars'i know, you're just supposed to keep them unopened for the year.
Hey, anyone want to be IN the Chinese New Year parade this Saturday in L.A. Chinatown??? I might be doing that. Could be fun.

Oh, so in keeping with the thread, I had a couple interesting phone calls (within an hour of each other) today.
The first was the IRS calling me for an interview (w00t!)
The second was my dad. He didn't start chemo today. He called his doctor because he felt like one of the lymph nodes seemed smaller than it was before. Cancerous lymph nodes do not shrink. The doctor had him come in and he took a look. Basically, they can't do another pet scan for a month, but since dad's original cancer had already metasticized, there's no harm in holding off a month on his treatment and taking a second look at those nodes on the off chance that it's some kind of infection making them look cancerous. They don't want to waste a round of chemo, because apparently you get only three(?) I don't know what that's about, either it damages the body too much or is no longer effective, not sure.
But anyway, there's a slight chance it's not cancer, we'll find out in a month.
