Pepsi to begin bottling "throwback" editions (http://www.bevindustry.com/Articles/Cover_Story/BNP_GUID_9-5-2006_A_10000000000000514065)with actual sugar instead of corn syrup:
In the middle of April, PBV also will begin distributing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which features those brands formulated with sugar.
What do you think? Who cares or this is the day you've been waiting for? :coffee:

Dublin Dr. Pepper (made with real sugar) is da bomb! So I think there is hope.
Mountain Dew with real sugar might cause anaphylactic shock.

I hope they aren't as expensive as Coke with sugar.

If I am going to drink a soda...and I haven't in quite awhile..I'd rather drink one with real sugar.

I assume that the cost of sugar cane has become competitive with corn syrup, with corn being used more and more for fuel.
Corn syrup is pretty evil stuff, so, I guess I come down on the pro-sugar side. Still won't be buying the sodas, though.

1) Who cares? (Since it was an option.)
2) Hurray! Now let's tax it like tobacco to pay for public health.

Awesome! They shouldn't call it "Throwback" though. They should label it "Organic," so all the hippies and greenies will clamor for it.
I hope they aren't as expensive as Coke with sugar.
Is that available as a choice where you live and does it really cost more? I heard that Kosher-for-Passover Coke is made with sugar. The bottles have yellow caps and the Pepsi has white caps.
Has anyone had it and is it yummy?
I've never been able to taste the difference between real sugar and most artificial sweeteners so all things considered I am fine with diet sodas which means to real sugar anyway.
That said, why anybody in the world allows the swill that is Pepsi pass their lips is beyond me.

Coke with sugar rocks! I can't wait for the Passover bottles to appear.
Pepsi sweetened with anything is horrid.

Costco sells Coke with real sugar, but the case is much more expensive then a case of Coke with HFCS. I haven't been able to find Kosher for Passover Coke or Pepsi, but I'll keep an eye out for it this year. I also heard that Hispanic food stores sell Coke with real sugar. I should check the local Japanese store to see if they are as well.

I drink way too much diet coke for me to be able to drink regular.
But if it helps the local economy, I'm all for it! (Lots more sugar cane grown in Louisiana than corn!)

I haven't been able to find the Coke with sugar- not at Passover (yellow caps, but they still had corn syrup, I think), not at the Mexican stores (regular stuff with corn syrup), nor at Costco.
I would absolutely welcome Coke made with sugar. I'm not a Pepsi girl, but good for them going back to real sugar.

In Texas, quite a few of the grocery stores have Coke w/sugar in the Hispanic food section. It is way grossly sweet.

Perfect! Exactly what I want if I want a soda.
It's pretty easy to get Mexican Coke around here (SF Bay Area). Any Hispanic grocery stores plus a lot of more standard ones; most Mexican restaurants.
Pretty much any where you can buy Jarritos products.

I should check the local Japanese store to see if they are as well. They used to have the yellow-cap kosher for passover Coke when I was a teen (at least that's when I was aware of it) and I know that in certain years they didn't bother having it (though I wouldn't know if that was just our area or not). I haven't looked for that in years. I think it was just Coke, not Pepsi that did that. Not sure.
It was kosher because it did not have corn syrup in it, only sugar cane. Corn isn't kosher for passover according to the strictest rabbis. Tasted the same to me.

Mountain Dew Throwback makes me happy. HFCS is bad, bad stuff.
You can get Coca-Cola Hecho en Mexico (cane sugar) at Costco (or at least, the Costco in Mountain View).

. HFCS is bad, bad stuff. This is a PDF (http://www.hfcsfacts.com/images/pdf/foodtechnologyoct06.pdf) of an excellent rundown of why that is simply not true. It's based on misinformation and misinterpreted science. The belief that HCFS messes with one's appetite is based on studies done with pure fructose, not HFCS (HFCS is only about 50% fructose) and in quantities well above normal consumption quantities.
Overeating any sweetner is bad for you, HFCS included. And for those that like the taste of the cane-sugar versions, awesome. But really, people the HCFS scare is based on little to nothing and is a major distraction from figuring out ways to actually address obesity issues.

You'll forgive me if I take propaganda from a site whose domain name (http://whois.ws/whois-com/ip-address/hfcsfacts.com/) is owned by the Corn Refiner's Association (http://www.corn.org/) with a grain of, er, sugar.
I know my own metabolism, and I know the difference in how I feel after consuming something with HFCS vs. the same with some form of natural sugar. I'll restate my previous to make it subjective: For me, in my personal experience, HFCS is bad, bad stuff.

That's fine. I'm sorry I didn't take a close look at the link, it was just the first of many I could have linked to.
Your personal experience and how you feel is certainly something to go on. I just feel the need to caution people not to take at face value reports that a single ingredient is as evil as the current popular line on HFCS makes it out to be. That kind of, "We've found the cause for all of our food ills!" should be a red flag that something's not right.
ETA: Oh, here's another link, unconnected with any corn industry types: http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/2007/05/science-of-sweets.html

Heh. It's not allowed in our household because it is the very amino acid that causes PKU (phenyketonuria) - Tom cannot metabolize it!

Every time I see this thread title, I think it's about Pepsi's new ad campaign, which not only flashes us back through the 20th century but also evokes their "Choice of a new generation" tagline.
