It's no wonder America is prudish. This is just a tiny sample - a how to if you will - on how to conduct a marriage in 1894.

At this point, dear reader, let me concede one shocking truth. Some young women actually anticipate the wedding night ordeal with curiosity and pleasure! Beware such an attitude! A selfish and sensual husband can easily take advantage of such a bride. One cardinal rule of marriage should never be forgotten: GIVE LITTLE, GIVE SELDOM, AND ABOVE ALL, GIVE GRUDGINGLY. Otherwise what could have been a proper marriage could become an orgy of sexual lust.

(oh noes!)

Here is what Snopes has to say on the subject (http://www.snopes.com/weddings/newlywed/advice.asp).

I tend to agree with their analysis on this one.

But it is cute though!

What? This is my motto!

GIVE LITTLE, GIVE SELDOM, AND ABOVE ALL, GIVE GRUDGINGLY.

And mine is: GIVE IN, GIVE YOUR ALL, AND ABOVE ALL, SPREAD THOSE HEDONS!

My other motto: When all else fails, take a nap.

Hmmm - we have quite a collection of turn-of-the-last-century sex or "hygene" books that I'll have to dig some quotes from.

No no no!

GIVE IN, GIVE YOUR ALL, AND ABOVE ALL, SPREAD THOSE LEGS!
