Yep, it's that time again.

Taco Tuesday?

Why yes, as a matter of fact it IS Taco Tuesday, but that's beside the point. Or should I say concurrent? Complimentary? Well, you get the point.

Well, every Tuesday is also Rubio's (http://www.rubios.com) Fish Taco Tuesdays in which fish tacos are only $1.25 each, from 2:30 p.m. to closing at most locations.

The regular price of a "Rubio's World Famous Fish Taco" is $2.29: Rubio's original baja-style fish taco since 1983. Crispy beer-battered fish, shredded cabbage, mild salsa and tangy white sauce.

Anyway, ¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! to those who celebrate or commemorate the day.

What is the big deal with submerging the mayonnaise?

If you're talking a grilled fish taco, I am so there.

Battered, never mind. ;)

Happy Cinco de Mayo, may you be free of the flu today!;)

Hmmm, I should make plans - or maybe I'll just buy a bottle of overpriced/overregulated tequila and drink away my sorrows. With a lime.

With the amount of methane produced, no wonder we have global warming.

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, and is not even a federally recognized holiday in Mexico.

It's the celebration of an isolated battle, in the state of Puebla, in which Meixcan troops, fewer in number and less trained, defeated occupying French forces. It slowed the French, who were trying to take over Mexico, although the French did eventually succeed in occupying Mexico City for 5 years until the US forced the installed Emperor Maxamilian out.

It's possible that the Battle of Pueblo was tangentially instrumental to the Union's victory in the Civil War. The Confederates were looking for an ally, and the French, likely keen on the US splitting up, would have been a good candidate. The unexpected difficulty they had in Pueblo may have prevented them from lending the resources the South could have used to hold their ground and succeed on secession.

Viva Cinco de Mayo!

F'ing with the French is the best reason ever for an informal drinking holiday.

Ok, so we have Drunken Irish Day and Drunken Mexican Day. Too bad Simchas Torah hasn't caught on as Drunken Jew Day. It's in the fall so it's got room to carve out a niche.

All the other ingredients in the melting pot need their own days. Then we could drink all year long.

Or maybe we should just drink anyway. Who needs drinking games?

Buzzkill!

Thanks! I'm not a fan of Ovechkin or Crosby but I'm really not a fan of how they are making this a rivalry between Crosby and Ovechkin. Though I'm sure if we play either team it will be a match up of one of them and Bobby Ryan.

Yes! ;)

Buzzkill!Did I say not to celebrate? If anything, the real origin gives a better excuse to celebrate since it relates to the US rather than just Mexico.

I thought Passover was drunken jewish day?

Though, of course, you can't simply get drunk like the Irish and Mexican versions. You have to go through a whole mishagas. But that's jewish for ya.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in Mexico. The date is perhaps best recognized in the United States as a date to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry, much as St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year are used to celebrate those of Irish, German, and Chinese ancestry respectively. Similar to those holidays, Cinco de Mayo is observed by many Americans regardless of ethnic origin.

Hey, any reason to party, right?
