View Full Version : What goes with green carpet

One of the houses we've made an offer on has green carpet. Darker then sea foam green and lighter then kelly green.
The walls are currently white.
Assuming I'm not going to be to afford to buy new carpet anytime soon and would like to paint the walls - what would look nice paint wise?
I'm a terrible decorator. I can tell when something looks good or bad to me - but try and come up with any sort of decorated room and I really struggle.
Would a mocha tannish color go well or would it make it feel like a tree with the brown and green?

Are there hardwood floors underneath the carpet? What year was the house built?

It was built in 1989. Not sure what's under the carpet... but that's a good question. Why didn't I think to wonder that?

What goes with green carpet
Um, hopefully, green drapes?

Something that complements green. You won't want to try and match it - you'll want something different. A nice gentle blue, maybe, or yellow (real light). On the sea-foam, you could paint the walls in light lavender/light blue/seafoam green in a sponge-paint pattern. That kind of suggests ocean to me. Maybe just blue and green.
On the darker carpet colors, you can use a more intense color, maybe a gold of some kind. Experiment a little.
See what's under the carpet. It might be worth looking at. My hubby and a friend laid tile, which turned out to be not all that hard, and which might be an option for you. Doing the labor yourself brings down the cost. A lot. Bamboo flooring comes in sheets, which is supposedly not too hard to lay yourself.

... A trip downtown to buy cheap area rugs?
But yeah, what ABG said. Depending on where the shade lies on the spectrum, lavender works well with light green (sort of a spring palette), as does light-to-medium blue.
We used to have green carpet in my house growing up, but it was dark hunter green and all the walls in the house were white, so I'm not much help.

I also vote for ripping it up. If it's concrete underneath, consider staining/waxing it and using area rugs. It's a very hip floor finish.

If the house was built in the 80's I can almost guarantee you it is just concrete underneath. I would look at ripping it up and replacing with the wood, cork or bamboo. Laminate is also inexpensive, but really look at what you're getting. Polished concrete floors have a wonderful look to them. All hard surface floors make a house look larger. Take a look at this site with some great - and green - flooring alternatives. http://www.flooringalternatives.com/content.asp?pid=10\ (http://www.flooringalternatives.com/content.asp?pid=10%5C)

I'm would prefer we get one of the other two houses over this one - but I can't help but wonder and dream and plan for all of them at once. Last night I dreamed of houses over and over again... looking at houses... I think it's all getting to me.

I see they're advertising for bamboo a lot - we just started a new bamboo cabinet line at my work. It's really pretty and a great idea. For cabinetry though - it's pretty expensive so I think that will have to wait.
So many things to think of and do. My body can no longer seem to tell the difference between anxiety and excitement.
I'd say a nice Cabernet Sauvignon.

A pink mohawk.
Finally!
I've been waiting two days. In fact this state of waiting is what made me realize that Kevy Baby must be off somewhere.

If you were waiting for a sexual reference, Gn2dlnd picked it up in post #4 (checking to see if the carpet matches the drapes joke)
