If you can hold the baby in for a few more years, I hear video cam, light adjusting, soothing noise generating baby monitors will be replaced with fully functional robot nanny and governess.

Just squeeze tight, should be available by the 2013 consumer season!

The nice thing is, with 2 rabbits we're about 75% baby proof already. We do still have to add the cabinet/drawer stops, but in terms of having things out of easy low-to the floor grabbing distance, we are already well trained.

Okay, is the Ghoulish Pair registered anyplace yet?Yup, GD is right, way early. I don't want to own a single new baby thing until after I begin my 6th month. (A big reason for this is once you're there, if something goes wrong, the baby can survive outside the womb. It's a major milestone.)

I only put these on 1 drawer and the cabinet where the trash can was. I gave him his own little cupboard, filled with things he could play with when I was in the kitchen. He had toy pots & pans, spatulas, cups, dishes...smaller and plastic versions of what I was using. He had his own stuff, so he stayed out of mine.

We didn't use many of the cabinet things - we just moved anything cleaning like to a high cabinet - then we just didn't have to mess with it. And Maddie was good about stuff. I have friends kids who were into everything. One had to tie together all the dining room chairs because her little angel would climb up the chairs, onto the table and swing from the chandelier.

Betty

Mine would use the lower cabinet as a ladder to climb. We had cupboard locks on everything.

I got gypped!

CP had an appointment today for the first round of genetic screening (at the genetics center located conveniently blocks from our home). She was expecting to show up, get stabbed, lose some blood, and go home.

Turns out our medical coverage provides for a full screening...including utlrasound! She got to see feet, head, proto-eyes, and twitchiness (which we're told is good). I've gotta wait another week until I get to see :(

BUT, what they did see is good news, with all of the visual checks and measurements within healthy range. Knock on lab desk.

A bit of a guided tour:

That's the heartbeat at the beginning, of course. Then as the ultrasound starts, you're seeing him/her feet-on, arms flailing about. Then the little parasite rotates so its head is to the right side of the screen. At about 1:20 the head turns to give you the full alien view, and at 1:40 it's calisthenics time as its rolled over onto it stomach and does a pushup, just to show off. :)

What's with the euphamisms? Are OB's afraid of vaginas? Yesterday while waiting for the Dr. CP noticed that on a poster detailing the female reproductive anatomy, a post-it was securely taped (yes, I chekced how securely) over the image in the corner titled "external reproductive organ". What's with this pathological need of OBs to avoid discussion of vaginas? Seems rather counter to their chosen specialty.

Alex

I would guess that they're fine with it but must eventually get worn down by negative patient reaction until they eventually stop.

BarTopDancer

Because vagina's might offend someone with delicate sensibilities. Then again if their sensibilities are that delicate they probably shouldn't be in an OB's office.

Well yes, but it's more amusing to think of convention halls full of OBs tittering every time a vagina shows up in a powerpoint presentation. And then tittering some more when someone points out that they can be described as "tittering".

I'm thinking that if our dr. refers to my unborn child's genitals as any sort of animal I might turn to CP and exclaim, 'You've been fvcking the turtle again, haven't you?! Whore!"

I guess if you're in there it's a bit late to introduce you to your vagina.

Here's how it went:

I called in last week to ask if they would tell us the gender at this appt. The receptionist said the doctor specifically told her to tell patients that he does NOT figure out the gender.

We go in today and I ask about it. The doc says that he got my message and then proceeds to give me the "all I look for is that it's healthy" speech. We nod, and instead of saying "WHAT THE FVCK??" I keep my mouth shut.

He turns on the ultrasound, pokes at my belly and says, "It's definitely a boy."

I'm soooo happy to have this mystery solved. I am not a fan of surprises, nor suspenseful waiting, for that matter.

We have video to post, though no promises of obvious gender. It's tough to know what to look for, and even while he was pointing at it, I knew I was basically fooling myself if I could say I was sure I saw it too.

Great nursery, you guys! :)

I think you should just leave the closet as is- it really looks nice, and the kiddo will only pull the curtain down anyway. I'm so excited for you three!

I KNEW this was all a conspiracy to make me miss football playoffs.

At a little before 4 this morning CP woke up feeling some discomfort (normal to have some early 'practice' contractions which have been happening for a couples weeks now).

not long after that she was waking me up because her water had broken.

We are in the hospital now. She's doing great. Since the water broke, they'll be getting the baby out one way or another today.

:D :D :D

no one ever told me that an epidural meant she'd be okay with me watching football and eating fries.

how much do anesthesiologists charge for Sunday house calls?

Keep on top of the doctors, though, or they'll abandon you for some screaming lady doing natural childbirth.

Unless, of course, you want to make it through both games.

Good luck.

now for the less glib update.

CP did an amazing job through 3+ hours of Petosin-aided contractions. She was having contractions without it but hadn't begun to dilate. Since the water broke it's important to get the baby out as risk of infection increases. So in went the petosin.

with her starting it at so early, she braved the pain as long ad she could, but that's just too long for the more intense contractions the drug causes. So she got the epi..and was immediately glad she did. :D

about an hour ago she was at 8cm. So now she's taking a MUCH earned map, waiting to be awakened by the "urge to push". Apparently we're having a baby.

One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was go back to work when Tori was a baby. I couldn't wait to get home to her. I still feel the same way, fourteen years later, even with her in the dreaded Teen years.:)
