I'm contemplating getting an iPod Touch*. I'd like to be able to both read and manipulate Excel and Word files. Is this possible? I googled that question and got answers that were a year old.
*I know I said iPhone in the title. But I don't want to get raped with an un-lubed sandpaper dildo on monthly charges.

Email from Apple yesterday:
An important service message for MobileMe members.
Dear MobileMe member,
We're pleased to announce the availability of the new MobileMe iDisk app for iPhone and iPod touch.
The iDisk app lets you access your iDisk folders and view files in formats supported by iPhone OS 3.0 including iWork, Microsoft Office, PDF, QuickTime, and more. The app also makes it easy to share files from anywhere. In just a few taps, you can email a link that lets friends and colleagues download a file directly from your iDisk. To learn more, watch the tutorial.
MobileMe iDisk app is available now as a free download from the App Store. Before you install it, please make sure you are running iPhone OS 3.0 on your iPhone or iPod touch.
We hope you enjoy this enhancement to your MobileMe service.
Sincerely,
The MobileMe Team

Note the word "access" and not "edit."

Note the word "access" and not "edit."But wouldn't you be able to edit them now that there is copy/paste functionality? I haven't tried it myself so I have no idea.

I think the iphone only has a viewer for MS Docs, but you can edit text notes. I haven't seen any spreadsheet functionality for the iphone yet.
