One of our dear friends, D. Scott Hessels, has recently installed a public art piece in his native Grand Rapids called "The Image Mill". The piece is an enormous steel zoetrope powered by water and installed in the fountain of the Gerald R Fold Museum. It is an amazing piece!

A video of the installation and the piece in action is here. (http://www.vimeo.com/6650510)

Scott is making regular updates on The Image Mill facebook page. That's frickin cool -- those zoetropes are simply hypnotic.

We could make a pug-powered one and install it in your living room!!

Sigh, I don't make it out to Grand Rapids too often.

Thanks for the video link.

Can we turn the Pixar one at DCA on its side and power it by the waterfalls at Grizzly Mtn??

Wait a second... why do I feel I know that guy?

Edited to add: Seriously, his voice sounds really familiar and he looks familiar. Is there any chance I could have met him somewhere?

I believe you have met our friend Scott - additionally, I recall you may have met each other independently on a flight to Michigan.

OMG - I knew it!!!!

And I still believe I met him on a flight to and/or from Michigan. He has that presence one just doesn't really forget. His connection with Grand Rapids only firms it up for me.

Scott was with us at a Gay Day at DL a few years ago. He's been living in Singapore for the past 4 or 5 years so it was a while ago.

Yes, once Chris confirmed it, I remembered exactly where I met him. We really connected on Storybook Land.

He left the most amazing impression on me.

Thanks for this link. :)

Now I know what a zoetrope is. If I'm ever in Grand Rapids, I'm heading right for the riverfront.
