FYI:
I ran across this thanks to a post by Mousepod, I thought some of you might like to know:

I saw this at a studio screening with L. Frank Baum's great grandson in attendence about three weeks ago. If you can come up with whatever the coin is I can't recommend it highly enough. Brand new restoration in 4K and it's being re-released on Blu-Ray.
It's exquisite!

Wish I could go, but I can't take the time tonight. Also, the one showing here is sold out anyway. Too bad they're not doing it more than just one time.

There's a showing here at 7pm. Not going to be able to see it, tho. First preview tonight for the play. I love the idea of being able to see classic films in the theatre.

It would have been nice to see it with such an enthusiastic crowd, but I suspect it was sold out long before today. I couldn't get worked up about it when I first heard of it, because I've seen this film in theaters about 8 or 9 times.
If I'd had a clue it would be a sold-out phenomena, I would have excitedly bought in. Most screenings have been sorta lackluster, but once in a while a really good crowd.

These people don't know how to book theaters. Century City, Burbank, or The Bridge in L.A.
Please.
Should've been either the Arclight or the Chinese for the Gays to bother showing up. I have been to a sold out showing at the Cineramadome and it was faaaaaaabulous.

That's pretty ironic, considering a certain very popular nickname for Austrailia. :)

Conan O'Brien thinks perhaps that going HD might have been a little too much (http://www.hulu.com/watch/99162/the-tonight-show-with-conan-obrien-high-definition-wizard-of-oz) for this film.

Seventy years after the Lollipop Guild first sang to Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz, the actors who portrayed the Munchkins reunited.
Newsweek caught up with the spry and nostalgic Octo- and Nona-generians as they met for what one former Munchkin believes is the last time. Half of the group was dressed in costumes and was seated in wheelchairs. One held a cane.
The Wizard Of Oz is was first released August 15, 1939.
A couple weeks ago, the Empire State Building was supposed to be lighted in green (color of "The Emerald City"), to celebrate the movie's release. But that never happened. Instead, the new york city landmark was bathed in red light.
Highlights from the video:
• Toto got paid more than the little people playing the munchkins. "He had a better agent than we did," said an 86-year-old Munchkin alum.
• Judy Garland was kind. The group recounts how the actress gave them a huge box of candy. Setting the box on the set's yellow brick road, Garland said, "Sweets for the sweets," according to a former Munchkin.
• 92 is old. Former Munchkin Meinhardt Raabe, 92, dozes off during the interview. Raabe's former cast members and the Newsweek crew wake him up.
