The new season stared (or starts depening on your time zone)
Once again my powers of prognostication proved themselves as one of the two teams I picked to go all the way was eliminated first.
I VERY much did not like the first roadblock. It's way to luck based for my taste.

Crap. I missed it. :(
Not only could I do wasabi bombs I have done wasabi bombs. And based on the relatively mild reactions I don't think they were using particularly strong wasabi.
I agree that it was too luck based, but then it was also
non-elimination
and besides there was plenty of variation between the order the teams left the road block and actually finished.
Now to watch the second hour.

I am a sap, and I know it, but I did not like having the elimination of a team before they even got to race one leg.
At least let them all go visit another country or two before you eliminate them.
True, but if you're going to do that, at least they did it to the most annoying person in the short time we had to know them.
I hope the poker players last because they may not be nice people but they're in my eye candy wheelhouse. Though for a Miss America-type the Miss America one is good too.

Team impressions:
Like:
Sam & Dan: Cute, gay, Goofy... What's not to love!
Zev & Justin: Love how supportive and sweet Justin is towards Zev.
Brian & Ericka: Sweet couple - He's hot.
Meh:
Gary & Matt
Marcy & Ron
Meghan & Cheyne
Mika & Canaan
Garrett & Jessica: Eliminated and soon forgotten.
Hate:
Maria & Tiffany: HATED the "We're social workers for homless youth" lie.
Lance & Keri: He's a grade A ass.
"Flight Time" & "Big Easy": Professional athletes who use stupid nicknames instead of their real names... Get of my TV!
Eric & Lisa: Annoying. ELIMINATED!

Two more comments:
The Japanese game show was pure effing genius! "Eat the wasabi!"
Canaan is a big time closet case.

Can I also point out it's a BIG FRICKING Planet. Why do you need to revisit places you have already been to? (The Shibuya crosswalk).

I like the poker players, although their lie has already backfired on them. I totally understand why they lied. Seems a lot of people have hangups about helping someone they feel doesn't "deserve" the money. They look like good players, generally, and I look forward to them reading the other players and sharing the insights.

totally thought the exact same thing. that much, mixed correctly, should be (nearly) fatal

I love wasabi and usually put a little more on my sushi than the average person. But even if I get just a dab too much (even for me) I get some serious nasal burnage. I agree that they must have been using some very mild stuff.
The game show was so hilarious though.
The poker players aren't too good at holding on to that bluff. The moment someone recognized them (delicious coincidence says I) they couldn't help but start blabbing. Typical narcissists.

YAY! I found a whole pack of other Amazing Race watchers! :snap:
I am pretty darn terrible at remembering the teams names - but I already can not stand the trial lawyer/muscle man jerk! ugh
The Poker players girls don't look like eye candy to me - but then I am an old straight woman. I don't much care for them. All the young teams 20/30 something teams are blurred in my head so far.
I adore the MT dad and son team, so cool they got first on the second leg . . and the team of best friends where one of the guys as aspers. Oh and I like the Harlem Globetrotter guys! So cute how the one held the little older lady's hand on the way to the finish.
Question: Do we assume the day after is okay without spoilers? I wasn't sure.

In response to my denagration of the wasabi roadblock, I loved the ducks roadblock.
I was really hoping at least one of the teams would swat the butt of the last duck across the bridge. I know I would have.
The "speed bump" looked too easy, but it's always hard to tell for sure. If there was more to it than just dumping all the stuff into the bowl, then the fact that Maria knew how to make the soup could have saved them. Tiffany on the other hand, WTF? Who the heck grows up around ducks anymore? Score another one for lady luck.
I hope Zev "The duck Whisperer" and Justin hang around for a bit but I'm afraid that all to soon the stress of some aspect will overwhelm Zev.
Oh and just once, I'd like to hear the deaf, short, blind, quadriplegic, zombie, Irish, or whatever disability player say "I'm here for the money" rather than "I'm here to show the world...."

Did anyone see the premiere episode of the new season of The Amazing Race? Definitely a great opener - the amount of stupidity on display was staggering. I won't spoil it until the thread gets going. You can stream the whole episode at CBS.com.

Huh? What? Premier? Damn. You can watch the whole episode on CBS.com, like Mousepod said. I just did since I was out of town on Sunday night.
Lots of stupid mistakes by teams in the first episode. It's not an advantage to rush off to the next thing if you don't read the whole clue thoroughly and understand what it says.
Also, I don't like the casting of people from other reality shows. Not interested in Big Brother, don't watch, don't care who they are. Give me some other people who haven't already had their 15 minutes plus.

We're going to Chile, but the currency exchange at LAX doesn't have any Chilean money. So let's change all of our money to Brazilian currency instead!

We're going to Chile, but the currency exchange at LAX doesn't have any Chilean money. So let's change all of our money to Brazilian currency instead!Yeah that was a major fail. I also felt bad for those house painters who had no idea why two random Americans were painting inside the house. And they had to fix that after the idiots left!

For someone on the show to redeem her reputation, she's off to a slow start.
But I do hope she stays around for a bit. There are sure to be a ton of good map joked to be made at her expense....

We totally high-fived at the comment that no one in LA uses public transportation. Look at us! We're in on the joke! We're locals!
Just about died at the interior painting, though.

Who would have thought house painting could provide such hilarity?

It's been a fairly good season. The Cowboys have really won me over. Their determination and ability to stay level headed in the face of adversity has been inspirational. I'll be very unhappy if they lose to some random factor like a bum cabbie.
Dan and Jordan are way too "Woe is me" for my taste, but I'll still root for them to take the #2 spot.
Catie (aka Ms. Teen South Carolina) and that guy she's with are still in it, proving once again the blind squirrel hypothesis.

I am severely disappointed that not one single player seemed excited about visiting the geek Mecca, getting greeted by the Storm Troopers and Darth Vader, and then getting to go inside. Sheesh people!
Oh yeah, and somebody won that I didn't feel was totally deserving, but whatever. ILM! Vader!
Of course it wasn't Skywalker Ranch, but still. ILM!
