Hey, cats. A little birdie on LJ just informed me that the theme for Fourth of July fireworks at the Hollywood bowl is Disneyland's 50th.
I think that this cries out, CRIES OUT for a meet.
They're running July 2, 3, and 4. That's Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
I suspect that Sunday and Monday may be out for some people, but I propose that we gather on Saturday, July 2 for some bowl-goin'.
I bet that we could even set up carpools. Or better than that, I know of some decent parking near a metro station that's a two-minute ride from Hollywood and Highland.
Who's with me?!
I know it's early, but it's near a holiday and tickets must be purchased. We can bump the thread later, too, if necessary.

What seating would you guys want? I've never been to the bowl. This sounds like fun, for Saturday night.

If we weren't going to be in out-of-town for a wedding, we'd be there. Sounds like fun!

I'd be happy with the lowest-level tickets, but would pay the $14 or $20 if everyone else wanted a slightly better seat. I hear that visibility at the bowl is good from any position.

This sounds like fun! I've always wanted to go to the bowl.
Any of the nights would work.

$14 or $20 sounds good to me.

Well, I can't stand the unpadded benches anymore. I'm gonna go for something a little cushier on my tushie.
And, oh, hmmmm, isn't it interesting that Saturday, July 2 happens to be my birthday! Oh, I will be spending it at the Bowl this year!

I don't blame you, dude. I've been to the Bowl once and I almost couldn't make it for two hours on those benches. I was in some serious discomfort. I didn't think to bring a pillow. That would certainly have helped.
Of course, not watching Sting would have helped, as well. He has, in my opinion, turned into a bit of a joke. Ah, but how I loved The Police. T'was worth it for Annie Lennox, though. Homegirl has a voice!

I'm game, for any of those price points!
For two.
Hmm.. I'll ask. Maybe four.

FWIW, the last two times I have been to the July 4th (I go on the second, traditionally) concert, it has been sponsored by Target, and cushions, free to take with you, have been provided. I have literally a STACK of target cushions from the past. No promise of the future, however, there appears to be a pattern. Also, you can rent huge cushions at the bowl, but plan on renting it out early as there is a line and they do sell out.
If you plan on seeing at least 5 show offered this season, I STRONGLY recommend, no, URGE, you to do the "build your own subscription" service on the hollywood bowl's website. There are a few reasons. First, individual tickets don't go on sale till May. Build your own subscription can be done NOW, meaning increased chance of getting seats in your intended price/section. Second, ticketbastard will charge you through the nose per ticket when ordered individually. The service charge for a built subscription is $10 TOTAL, flat, that's it. I built a sample season this morning (as I can't buy till next week), getting PAIRS of tickets, lined up 8 shows, and the total with service charge was $78.
And if you're going to do it, get on it. Once individual seats go on sale, forget it, the good stuff, especially July 2, 3, & 4, will sell out. Cheapies like me can go all season in sections x and w by planning ahead.
...incidentally, if you're going for the cheapest seats, pay attention - once in a while, like the July 4th spectacular, sections w and x will be the same price.

Ken and I already have our tickets for the July 2nd show. I know Morrigoon and I were talking about making a "day" out of it, and maybe doing a carpool "tour" of assorted Disney locales, like the original studio building (which is now a grocery store - perfect for last minute Bowl picnic stuff!) and Walt's grave, among other locations. And I just might (MIGHT), be able to get a small group tour of the Burbank lot, depending on how many there would be, and if my friend is available, etc.
Would any of you be interested in a pre-Bowl tour that day?
