I confess I hope Roman Polanski beats the extradition motion - rather have him making movies than sitting in a jail cell/court room

Alex 09-27-2009 12:50 PM

I hope he doesn't.

1. He should face the music. Regardless of time past, the current feelings of the victim, etc., it is important to remember that he drugged and had sex with a 13-year-old girl. Forced retirement to France is not much of a price to pay.

2. At this point his punishment isn't likely to be that significant (especially with the victim apparently on his side) so if he'd just get it out of the way he could go back to making movies freely.

3. He's only made one particularly good movie in the last 35 years so I confess I don't much care whether he continues making movies or not. If he'd just faced the extra couple of months in jail 30 years ago, regardless of whether the judge was being fair or not, he'd have been making movies unfettered teh whole time and may very well have received a presidential pardon if the victim had still turned out on his side (her comments on why she doesn't want him pursued don't seem to be so much out of forgiveness but rather she just hates having to deal with it every time Polanski returns to the spotlight).

Whoops, thought this was the movie thread not the confess thread. Debating the point less appropriate.

So if this comes up in that threat consider the above post included by reference.

Freud would love this.

He might (but then he was wrong about almost everything), but I'm missing what threat I might possibly be subconsciously referring to.

That is such a Freudian thing to say.

[couch (cooch?) mode] Obviously you see the Miscellaneous Movie Musings thread as a threat to you, perhaps you don't really like watching movies, or they somehow remove you from your comfort zone. It's OK, you can tell me. [off couch]
