After one mortgage company sent me two consecutive and identical two-page faxes, I'd had enough. I took the biggest Sharpie in my drawer, and wrote "STOP SPAMMING THIS NUMBER" "STOP SPAM" "NOBODY READS IT BUT RECEPTIONISTS" and "TAKE US OFF YOUR LIST" on the pages and faxed it back to them. Felt good.

Did the fax have an 800 number to call to be taken out of their database?

Betty, one thing I've learned from my parents (career public school teachers) is that you should ask to see your daughter's file (you have that right) to make sure this teacher hasn't put anything on record that might hinder her in the future. My sister went through a very similar experience with a teacher that, for whatever reason, did not like her and regularly singled her out. When she ended up the next year, her first in Jr. High, in remedial math, my parents got suspicious, asked to see the record, and found that that one teacher had put notes in there that were the reason she was, incorrectly, assigned to that class.

You have the right to see everything, and you have a right to say hell no if they are doing something that you don't want for your child.

Well, I expected the late night last night, courtesy Caltrans, to lead me to cave and fall off the caffeine-free wagon. But save for some Pepsi last night (had to mix the run with something*), I haven't touched a drop and here I am at 3:30 feeling wide awake. Huzzah, I am free of the percolated devil (for now)!

*Let's just go ahead and assume we had the, "What? Rum and Pepsi! Coke only!" conversation and skip it. Besides, as far as I'm concerned, if you put the proper amount of rum, especially Myer's dark, it shouldn't matter what the substrate is.

This probably shouldn't be considered work-safe, for text reasons, but it's on the MSN site: "Toys"* go green... for health's sake

*- You know the kind of "toys" I'm referring to here... right?

Words to live by

Years ago, I worked for a hot tempered Basque chef who would storm into the bar and order a Pepsi, meaning Myer's and coke. Rumor has it one day in Jamaica he picked up a prep cook and set him on the grill. Colorful guy!I haven't thought of him in years.
