Lol, totally. I know several people who don't feel they are able to home/unschool, but they incorporate the principles into their lives anyways. Like fostering passions instead of motivating to get good grades, going out of their way to expose their kids to interesting things (because school takes up so much time and it is mostly boring), and really helping their kids follow their interests.

Ozron, that school sounds fantastic. It reminds me of the Sudbury Valley School, which is essentially unschooling in a school.

MW - I agree, what matters is that the kids are happy.

WB - I totally agree about the socialization thing. Here everyone is so spread out that people plan their playdates a few weeks in advance. Our calendar is so full. We have a homeschool preschool group that we go to every week and a few people close by, but in the summertime keeping Indi in touch with his friends is a monumental effort. I long for a smaller, progressive community where socializing flows more freely.

I have the Squirrel Nut Zippers version of Under the Sea.

I've just discovered you can pull up MartiniInTheMorning through iTunes radio under 50s/60s Pop.

OK, folks, any other versions of "Under the Sea" ?

Well, I know my sister co-wrote alternate lyrics, "I Have to Pee", with her best friend in college while sitting through a lecture.

When I was a kid, we'd discuss science and history questions at the dinner table, then pull out encyclopedias for dessert. Not only did it teach me something, it fostered a love of questioning and learning. I know I'll do the same with my kids, though we'll probably use the internet.

We have frequent wikipedia breaks during these types of discussions at home.

Although my wife still gets annoyed when I pull out my smartphone and run a search while we are in "polite company" but hey if you need to put the beat down on your pain-in-the-ass, know-it-all, ex sister-in-law, that Hoover dam opened in the 30's not the 40's and was originally called "boulder dam" even though it's located in black canyon not boulder canyon, well what else are ya gonna do?

When H and I visit the Disney parks, we often find ourselves singing "Under the Seat". The trick is to imagine what kind of strange and wondrous things (gum, snot...) previous guests have left behind.

I have the german one on my iTunes at home, but its not called, or titled, Under the Sea.
I'll get back to you on the title.

I was home schooled, but my parents never knew about it.
