Oh, man. :(
I am so sorry, Morri. I know how much you love your Barnum- how awful! Poor little guy. I hope they can make him comfortable right away, and that it isn't anything serious. Maybe he just wrenched it and some rest and meds will bring everything under control. |
:( Good thoughts for Barnum

Yikes! I'll be sending good thought for Barnum. From personal experiences with dachshunds, back issues are fairly frequent. Just know that it's a *lot* better today than it's been in years past. I know a dog that, aside from a little wonky walk she had, she recovered well from her back surgery.
I'll be thinking about you guys. |
:( Good thoughts for puppy.

<<<HUGS!!!>>> Poor puppy... :(

Little update that's no update: called the vet. He's resting comfortably. They have him on narcotics, and now they've put him on the fluids, but don't have the lab results back yet on his blood work to see if he's okay to receive the steroids to address the inflammation. So we're waiting to hear the blood results at this point.
I hope that comes out okay, but I already got some bad news this evening when the vet said she heard a heart murmur she hadn't heard last time he was in. (She mentioned that when I was there, just forgot to mention it because she basically drops that bomb on me and doesn't say anything more about it because we were talking about his spine, not his heart). WTF for my poor poopy-doops, seriously. |
I'm so sorry to hear about puppy troubles. I'm sending good vibes and the best of luck to you yours.

His blood work came back fine. They said his sugar was a teeny bit high, but that sometimes happens when they're stressing from being at the hospital, and that he was a little dehydrated, which didn't make much sense to me, given he has water available 24/7, but the vet tech pointed out that he might just not have taken a drink in a little while, plus the time he's now been at the vet (he got hurt at 8:15, it's now midnight) but that it's not a problem now because he's on IV fluids anyway.
He also confirmed something for me that I've suspected... Barnum doesn't have a regular vet yet because I haven't found one I'm happy with. I've taken him to the VCA pet hospitals, two different ones, and in both cases didn't feel comfortable, it seemed like they were trying to upsell me, and he said he'd heard that before. Bastards. But the emergency vet will give me some references of other vets. Speaking of which, I asked what kind of condition he's going to be in when I pick him up in the morning (trying to plan for what to do with him, if I needed to be watching him or what) and he was talking about transferring him to his regular vet to continue being observed and possibly receiving more injections, which means, joy, a few hundred bucks MORE over the $1200 currently being shelled out. I guess I'll know more in the morning when I get him, because if it was just a matter of keeping him caged up and still I could run him up to Alex's mom's and use one of her kennels to lock him in to keep him still. But if he's going to need even more steroid injections... (sigh) I guess I cross that bridge when I get to it. So much for payday. |
So sorry to hear about your pup, Cindy. Keeping both of you in our thoughts.

Thanks all.
