So today was the big day. Root canal. I wasn't expecting to feel this bad afterwards.

One more hour and I can take another pain killer. It can't come soon enough.

*hugs* Dental work sucks.

I feel *off* today.

I hate it.

Well, I picked Barnum up from the Urgent Care vet, and they instructed me to take him directly to his "regular" vet. *ahem* But anyway, I took him to *a* regular vet, and she, after talking to the vet from last night immediately started talking to me about taking him to the neurologist. So basically he's going to have to have the $3500-$5000 surgery. Meanwhile, she's got him today and she'll continue the steroid treatment, so I get to pay another $300 just for today's treatment which won't solve the problem but might alleviate the pain somewhat.

Barnum was NOT a happy camper that I took him to another vet when he thought he was getting to go home. Poor guy!

At this point... I have no idea what's going on, what's going to happen tonight, anything. I suppose it'll develop as the day progresses.

Since pets can't tell us exactly what's wrong (why can't they learn English?), I've found that many vets - even really good ones - will lay out the worst case scenario from the get-go. I admit that I find it very frustrating, but I'm at the point now where I can deal. We finally went through with a not-cheap diagnostic procedure to look the heart of Bob (our 11-year-old chihuahua) because of a murmur they detected. He's now on very inexpensive pills ($6/month) to take care of the problem.

We're thinking of you and Barnum and hoping for the best. Thanks for keeping us posted.

For the last couple of months, we've noticed that our 2000 Honda Accord is having a little trouble with its automatic transmission. Specifically, when we slow down to an almost complete stop and then try to accelerate, the gear shift can be pretty jarring. Since we're at over 98,000 miles and 7 years - most definitely out of warranty, we were expecting the worst when we brought it in for maintenance.

So this morning, I bite the bullet and bring it to the Honda dealership for an oil change and ask them if they could check the transmission. It turns out that the problem was indeed what we had imagined.

The service guy goes to his computer and says, "You're in luck. There's an extended warranty on transmissions on your year and model. It won't cost you anything." They even threw in a free rental car for the few days it'll take to get the parts and replace 'em. My final cost estimate is for the oil change alone - less than $40.

Sweet MP!

One credit card paid off. 2 to go.

I am so excited!

MP, that's good news! Do you have a V6? If so, apparently it's a known issue:

"Automatic transmission: On V6 models, transmissions may fail due to lack of thread-locking compound on nut for low clutch. Honda/Acura has extended warranty on affected vehicles to 7 years or 100,000 miles. (1999-2002) "

BTD, congratulations on paying of the credit card.
