Big congratulations, GD! I'm sure you deserve it.

Congratulations, GD. That's awesome news.
I despise the unspoken and spoken policy of not revealing what you earn to co-workers, or even to friends. It's bullsh!t, imo. (oh, and I've been bitching about my crappy raise for the last 10 days around the office.) |
I don't really have any qualms mentioning my salary to friends if it comes up, though I'm unlikely to bring up the topic myself.
Coworkers is a different story. While I personally don't give much thought to comparative salary, I know too many people who put a ton of stock in it and would get bent out of shape if they were to know that they got a smaller piece of the raise pie because I got a larger one. So I simply don't discuss it at all because I want no part of their drama. |

As the fiscal person, I know what everyone makes, and I know that I'm on the bottom of the pile. It kind of sucks, actually, that the receptionist makes considerably more than the "fiscal administrator." I'm have to account for tens of millions of dollars down to the penny, and I make considerably less than the person responsible for ordering the pens and copy paper and serving coffee to visitors.
Not that I'm bitter or anything. (4.5 months....) ETA: it's been published on campus that we've been allotted 4.5% per person for merit increases this year. Except in our unit, where they decided that 2% is a "substantial" increase, and they're going to save the rest of our allotment to award the "truly deserving" - which means it's going to the Queen Bee's chief fluffer, who has already had three substantial (15%+ each time) increases in the past year. AND, I know that they plan to request 15K/year additional funds for my replacement. Again, not that I'm bitter... |
Okay, Bonds did it. Can everyone shut up and move on now?

I really hate how USA and TNT cut out parts of L&O and SVU.
Or maybe it's just sad that I know that they cut parts out. |

A new MLB record, but not a world record. He has 112 more to go to reach that point.
But at least we're on the downside now. And teams can go back to treating him like the player he is worth. It will be interesting to see if anybody wants to spend money on him next season. |
