Yes, I know waaaay too much about GS cookies.

Perhaps they were making an association between the two as they are very similar cookies. Each bakery is required to offer Thin Mints, Do-Si-Does and Shortbread. The other offerings come from a list but are at the discretion of the 2 bakeries (which is also why some cookies are called by 2 different names-- depends on the bakery). Unlike Somoas and Caramel D'Lites (which are ostensibly the same), these 2 cookies may be similar but they are not the same. Prior to Thanks-a-Lot, ABC offered Animal Treasures not All Abouts.

eta: There is a possibility that All Abouts were offered prior to 2005 by ABC which is when O became involved in GS. (But I believe they have always been an exclusive offering of LBB and were offered up until last year.)

Depending on where BTD bought her cookies last year, she could have very well purchased All Abouts. Orange County did switch to ABC in 2008 as I previously posted, but if she purchased anywhere in LA County or San Diego County...she would have bought Little Brownies products. I can't blame any Scout in the OC Council for telling her that she's buying All Abouts, since that is what anyone who used to sell from Little Brownies would identify them as...especially after the design change that Little Brownies made last year. In 2008, they changed the shape to a round cookie with the words "courage" "confidence" "character" "fun", etc. embossed on them much like the current "Thanks-A-Lot" design. We loved the change since the old oval cookie required an odd-shaped box which made cookie distribution and packing a tad more difficult.

As far as GSUSA is concerned, the "Thanks-A-Lot" cookie is considered an "All About" since nationally they try not to make any differentiation between the bakers. (Just as ABC billed the "Thanks-A-Lot" the new "Animal Treasure" cookie when it switched in 2006). The recipe may be slightly different than the All Abouts, but as far as selling...they are simply considered a name change just as the Trefoils/Shortbread and Samoas/Carmel deLites are billed as the same cookies.

Personally, I think they should call everything by a uniformed name, but I've been told it is a licensing issue with the 2 bakers (as well as the slightly different recipe).

I don't remember the last time I had GS cookies. And I join Alex in boycotting the Boy Scouts.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think they (mostly) have silly names - well the "Little Brownie Bakers" names at least?

Thin Mints - OK, this works. The following should be re-named for uniformity and clarity:

Do-Si-Dos / Gauchos = Peanut Butter Sandwich (Says what it is)
Tagalongs = Peanut Butter Chocolate Patties (Says what it is)
Samoas = Caramel Coconut deLites (Says what it is)
Thanks-A-Lot / All Abouts = Shortbread Fudge cookie (says what it is)

GOD !!!! I Hate people who name products so you don't know what they are !!!!!!!!!!!!

...I'm off to eat a Tim-Tam.

I'm with you Lash.

Samoas on the other hand..... Fortunately I don't usually do the grocery shopping, nor am I located anywhere near a LoT reseller.

I seem to recall at one point in my childhood the underlying cookie in thin mints was in the shape of the GS logo. That was positively ages ago now. (Are the shortbread cookies still shaped like that?)

I believe the Trefoils are.
...or are they round with the trefoil design stamped in?

Unless, while standing in front of Safeway begging me for money they are willing to verbally castigate the Boy Scouts.

O will verbally castigate them for their stance on gays and the fact that you are not allowed to leave out the word "God" in their oath/pledge. Totally not kidding.

:wiping tears: I'm so proud of my little social warrior.

Nothing feels so good as beginning the emotional ruination of a seven year old.

O''s a Brownie. She'd turn to me and very loudly say, "Mommy, that man was a butt."

You'd so end up buying her cookies.

BTW, the peanut butter in all GS ookies was NOT affected by the pb recall.

Sooooo..... my chances for ending up in Chi-Town this May are looking rather slim. So very sad. :(
