I was once told by a nurse that antihistamines and decongestants work against eachother, to some degree, which explained why those supposed all-in-one allergy medications did nothing for me but make me tired. She recommended I use Tavist Sinus (which was different from Tavist-D in that is was ONLY the decongestant), and that was the first thing that ever seemed to work on my allergies. The best part is, because it's a decongestant, it works terrifically on reducing sinus pressure, because the whole point is to encourage everything to drain out.
Can't find Tavist Sinus these day, but basically anything with pseudo-ephedrine in it will do the trick. Yeah, the stuff they now make you ask the pharmacist to get. My attitude towards allergy medicine is if you don't have to go on a government list to get it, it isn't good enough. |
I didn't sleep much last night due to allergies. I'll try some of the things recommended. The thing that seemed to help this morning was a TheraFlu packet. Sudafed unfortunately did nothing, and neither did Claritin. Drinking some hot tea helped (but doesn't do anything for helping me sleep) and cough drops helped.

I've known people with sinus issues and every one of them that's tried the saline solution has come out of it extolling its benefits. While I felt it helped me, I couldn't help but gag every time I did it. It's my own issue... I know it's good stuff.
I hope you start feeling better soon! |
I <3 Zyrtec.

and I just love getting chewed out by the office manager for something that is completely her fault.

Are the two related? ;)
I'm really in the mood for something mustardy. Is that weird? |
I'm with Morri on the 'government list' allergy meds, but am fortunate that Benadryl still works for me. (I've been taking it for years, long before it went otc).
Strangely enough, I had almost no allergy symptoms in Hawaii. Don't know if it's because it hadn't rained much there lately or what, but I took very few allergy meds. Got home, and it was right back to the Benadryl. I know some of my allergies are due to the animals, but I don't care. I wuv them! |
You know what I love? I love having budget meetings where they talk about how with my increased duties and responsibilities and such they'll have to pay someone about 18K more/year to replace me. And boy, that's going to be hard to come up with in the next couple months. And then they find out I'm not leaving until sometime after graduation, which is the end of December, and they blurt out, in the meeting with me: Great! Now we don't have to come up with the extra funds until 2008!
Oh wait - that's things I *don't* love. Nice to know that I'm worth a third more than I actually earn, and that you'll give it to the next one, and that you want me to request funds for that next person, but that you expect me to do all this new stuff for the same amount. Because you don't need to pay me because once I graduate I will instantly be rich because apparently everyone with a JD is rolling in the extra dough. I have so much hate for these people. |
Gee, I'm sure sorry that it's going to be so difficult to come up with the money for your replacement. How about they do the juggling now and pay you what you're really worth? :)
Hold on. Graduate. Get out. Get a job where they value you. The whole process here at the school is really stacked against you and it's not fair. So endure while you have to, then get out. Go somewhere. Anywhere, really. |
I wanna cry right now.
