I was assuming that the critters in all the pictures were alive. Taxidermied critters make me a little sad and that takes away some cuteness points.

Don't tell me - people don't think dead things are cute, right? Did they publish the result in that most auspicious of scientific journals, "Duh Magazine"?

No, that wasn't the point of the demonstration. But that said, if you can't tell something is dead, why is it less cute just because you've been made to think it might be?
Anyway, sorry for letting loose the meandering non sequitur. |

The dolphin pic in question actually does have a tinge of sadness. "Nipper" was two weeks old when he was found on a beach. He had marks from what seems to be net entanglement. His mother was nowhere to be found.
He's fine and will be nursed until he can be freed. Cute, but sad. :( |
