Why is it at every company I've ever worked at, when I'm actually going somewhere on a holiday, some made up emergency happens and I get stuck?

Murphy's Law - Anything that can go wrong, will.

This happened to me on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving when I was in college. I was a receptionist and my hours were 12-6 (I spilt it with another gal who worked 6-12). So by the time I start at noon 3/4 of the builiding has left. By about one when my supervisior leaves there are four people left, the CEO and CFO being two of them. My supervisior tells me just stay until the CEO leaves then shut off the switchboard and head out.

So I wait and I wait and I wait. By 3 it's just the CFO and the CEO. And the phone has not rung for at least an hour. Wait some more. The lobby area was seperate from the rest of the office so I'm out there totally by myself bored out of my mind. Wait some more. Finally at 5:50 the CEO and CFO emmerge. And the CEO says "Oh you should have left hours ago"

It seems this sort of thing happens to me just about every darned time. Ugh.

KS - that happened to us in my old company in our old building. Our manager forgot we were upstairs (2 of us in another suite separate from the rest of the dept). He came upstairs and said WTF are you doing here still?

New company - can't leave till 5. We're a service based company and heaven help our clients (who are probably gone for the day) if they can't reach someone at 4:55 on a Friday before a 3 day weekend. Me? I can sneak out around 4:30 if I want. But I'm going to see Toby Keith with a co-worker and she can't leave till 5.

I'm here reading LoT waiting for 5:00.

Going to DCA to see DELP (it's been years!). Last night saw the fireworks (from the prime spot in front of the castle) last night (hadn't since the 50th ended).

I can't even get the brain going to do any work........

Morrigoon 08-31-2007 03:47 PM
