Prescription: one linen rectangle, water. Wet linen. Wrap around head. Enjoy your medieval do rag. Report back on the next batch of musical discoveries.

I'm employing the "don't drink too much coffe, eat earlier in the day, drink lots of water before hand, stop at store for Gatorade" method today. This is the first year I didn't bring ANY of the following items:

Personal cooling device
Personal fan
Bandana
Emergen-C

Except for the fan, I rarely needed these things. Go figure.

Moral of the story - overpacking is not a crime.

My pictures suck but my video is not bad. But, I'm to lazy to upload any of it.

Maybe Chris has a decent one of Rufus Wainwright in what I swear is a robe from the Beat Hotel.

I wonder if Perrier makes an IV.

As Lisa said Gogol Bordello was the best way to close the day

We got off to an iffy start - Seeing the "Medic Tent" instead of the Gobi, Mojave, or Sahara, but NA was in good Company, the 105 temp had people dropping all over. So we took it easy.

Tilly and the Wall as a great surprise - who knew thier percussion included tap dancing?

Amy Weinhouse pulled a great performance, it's amazing to see such a voice come out of such a small body, I swear these is a 400 pound black woman hidden inside her somewhere

Of course, she had a drink in hand...

Rufus Wainwright appears to have stayed at the Beat Hotel - perhaps we can claim him as one of us?

Unfortunately the sound wasn't great, but his performance was fun. A lot more "queeny" in this venue as opposed to Hollywood Bowl where he played with his father...

I did catch Scarlet Johansen's bit with the Jesus and the Mary Chain, and even snapped this from the Jumbotron:

We caught a song and a half from the Brazilian Girls. Sabina had on this Hoola-hoop-reflector outfit that served as a portable spot light - I love this band - Between Interpol and Faithless, having also caught a few songs from each, this appeared to be the best show:

And although Gogol Bordello took the show, we did catch the beginning half of Bjorks set - but she was hard to see - my best effort:

This year the art has been spectacular - especially at night, which means very hard to photograph, but what's Coachella without giant arachnid robots?

And this year not only is there an extra day, there's an extra Tesla Coil!

That's all for Friday

Ghoulish Delight 04-28-2007 02:06 PM

I can see the meetings now:

"You know what's better than a giant tesla coil?"

I told you to take that personal cooling device! Silly woman.

While I'm not jealous about your emergency tent visit, I'm jealous of everything else! :) Looks like you guys are having fun.

Only 103 today. It's cooling down!

And I didn't end up at the medic tent either! Plus we got a prime parking spot in Lot 1.

LOTS of great music today.
  • Arcade Fire gave another AWSOME show. They are sooooo much better live than on their recordings.
  • Roky Erickson (from the 60's psychodellic band 13th Floor Elevators) can still play a mean guitar and sing like a madman - mental illness not withstanding.
  • Gotan Project was a perfect penultimate end to a great day.
  • Cornelious was the PERFECT end to a great day. And, I so wish MousePod could've been there with us to share some Japanese love.
  • LCDSounsystem was fricken awsome but so incredibly crowded I just about died. They have such a Pere Ubu/Buzzcocks feel to them, I love them! I want to see them again very soon.
  • Peter, Bjorn and John needed a bigger tent. It was the Gnarles Barkley syndrom from last year - the band too popular too fast and outgrew their tent even before they played. The result was not good for us. I was really looking forward to seeing them, and they were great - there was just too many bodies to hear well.
  • !!! - LOVED them and need to see them again. Soon.
We saw more, but I'm fried.
