I think it was previously posted (but no problem in a second posting).

But I don't get the attraction of cheese on bacon.

Am I missing something? I've never heard of them but an internet search says they're meatballs with rice and onion. What's wrong with that?

It wouldn't be bad but...my Mom had ulcerative colitis so no onion and absolutely no spices, pepper anything. So tomato sauce, rice and hamburger. Bland and gross.

I loved my Mom's Porcupine balls.

I like the bacon martini recipe from that article:
Quote:

Serve the candied bacon on its own or as a cocktail garnish. Place some vodka and Applejack brandy in a shaker, with just a touch of amaretto and maple syrup. Shake with ice and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the candied bacon and a thin slice of apple (we do have to be somewhat healthful). Voilà. A candied bacon martini.

My husbands Mom didn't ever cook the meatballs first and the sauce is cream of mushroom soup. It never looked appetizing to me and sometimes your meatball isn't cooked through!

Porcupine meatballs need to be cooked all the way through. I kind of like them once in a while.

Not like bacon, which must be consumed regularly.

katiesue 12-18-2008 08:34 PM

Wait you pre cook the meatballs? Ok Mom didn't do that either. Not as bad as say Zucinni Pizza but still not one of her stellar recipes. Actually I'm not sure there were any stellar recipes.

No particular attraction. It is just that it is bacon...and cheese. Why waste time eating them separately? (If you're going to eat either of them, since I'm not having any bacon.)

How can it have been nearly 3 weeks since a post in the bacon thread? To remedy this travesty of porcine justice, I offer this - a picture of candied bacon in progress:
