One has to wonder, or at least I do, how OLD was said roll of film?

Bingo! Actually, it was two rolls. One from Christmas '99 that had our surviving cat and rabbit. Their last Christmas. One was from, I'd say, Christmas '94 that had both cats.

Yeah, I've played that game before. I was helping someone move their daughter out of the house, and we found a roll of film.
The pictures were GREAT.
But of them on their Honeymoon twenty-two years earlier.

I knew there was a reason you noted it. :)

That has to be kind of weird. But cool that the film was still developable.

Geez, '96? That's not young, that's clueless. I mean, I understand when a group of jr. high aged kids this year walked into a room in Chicago's MCA with a floor tiled with LPs and, when asked what they thought they were, responded, "CDs?" But someone old enough to be in library school in the mid-late 90s? I'm likely younger than that person and I grew up with LPs.

True, she was the only one who didn't know (and she was very young for grad school, 20 I think). But right on the edge of what was to come. I knew what an LP was but had never owned one (I was 22) and neither had anybody in my family bought one in living memory (my Dad had an old collection of them but I had never seen one played).

But the point of my reminiscence was that I would avoid the "what's film" joke since premature hints of technological obsolescence makes people feel old.

Oh, hearing those kids in the museum definitely did that. Especially later when I heard another kid say, "I've never had a CD. All my music is digital." Yikes.

But nothing made me feel older than being at the Henry Ford Museum and seeing my childhood on display. IN A MUSEUM!!

Welcome to the world of aging! :)

How about 8-track tapes? That was my first medium for owning an album.

katiesue 12-04-2007 11:05 AM

My mom is trying to purchase a new stereo system but is having problems finding what she wants because she wants a record player, dual tape drives and cd. We did finally convince her that the 8track portion of her plan was a lost cause.

She need a computer, surround sound speakers, and a USB turn-table.
