The Boy gets lunch at school. With the way he eats, it is much cheaper that way.

Traveling this much has made me really start to think of LA as home. Now, instead of being slightly turned off by the view on the return flight of the sprawl of lights that is the LA Basin, I'm starting to get excited when I see it.

Ugh, mine are so picky, if I didn't make them both a lunch, they really would go hungry. My daughter must have peeled, sliced cucumber with lime and a little salt. My son needs to have sharp cheddar cheese, which I need to cut into the perfect sized cubes, plus 2 cinnamon graham crackers.

It's like ToriBear's cat and the flossing. Once they got me to make it for them, they knew I would! Meh, so they get what they want for school lunch. I'm ok with that. I even write notes and put them in their lunches. I figure when they get older, they won't want anything to do with the dorky food I make them. I'm probably weird about it and overcompensating because I was a latchkey kid and had to have hot lunch every day throughout my school years, and my mom didn't cook at all. If I had asked for sliced cucumbers? Geesh. Can't imagine what the answer would have been.

I was just the opposite. My mom always made my lunch. I begged to be able to buy a school lunch. She also made all of our bread. I used to trade sandwiches just to be able to have store bought bread.

Never mind, missed the second paragraph.

But I wouldn't be so sure they won't want you to keep it up. Or that they won't just change their irrational demands to new things as they get older.

OMG, I remember people like you -- I wanted to be you! I remember one time when we were required to bring a sack lunch for a field trip and I couldn't find anything at home to make my own lunch. I think I brought a bag of CheezIts or something. Oh, and I had to take one of my mom's TABs to drink. The grass is always greener and all that.

My daughter spent all of first grade eating bacon for lunch. That was the most inconvenient phase for me. That was all she wanted. Bacon. Nothing else. Future LoTer.

I was exactly the same way. All I really wanted growing up was a cardboard pizzas from the lunch line....or, Wonder Bread, Tang, Zingers, Bologna and American Cheese. What I got was white cheddar and turkey on whole wheat or raw peanut butter on wheat.

Now, if I pack a lunch, I pack something more long the lines of what I grew up with. Yummy.

I used to beg to be able to bring a lunch, but since my mom bought Roman Meal bread, I learned pretty quickly that brought lunch sucked.

Now, even as an adult I can't get excited about a brought lunch.

The Rat makes my lunches. Sandwiches always taste better when someone else makes them.
