all over. my dads idea of vacations were family camping trips to death valley in august.

the bear thing was in the sequoias. I'd face a dozen bears to see it again.
the weird rat lookin' things was the grand canyon. middle of the night, black as pitch outside our lil igloo, they start throwing themselves against the outside of the tent (and everything else in sight). tore the camp to pieces. all running in one direction for as far as my mag lite would shine. freaky sh!t

it was sooo coooool

I have taken notes.....:snap:

Prudence, I tried to send you some mojo but couldn't. Love your retrospect.

Music - we always bring it and never listen to it

Bears - I once encountered a large black forest dog, Lisa says it was a bear, but I think it moved to fast for the lumbering bears I've seen on TV

My husband. Mr. Outdoors!

We've actually seen quite a few bears over the years. They are all over the Sierras and not uncommon to spot.

I like the kind of camping that comes with room service.
:D

Camping is great fun, but it's not swanky.

Ah, but when we do it, we make it swanky - it usually revolves around food and drink, camp sangria, blackened red fish, lamb Kabobs in a curry yogurt sauce. I also hike with a cocktail shaker - nothing like having a delicious sidecar when you reach the top of the trail.

sigh - I miss camping

Ew, big banana slugs???

When you see something like that, can you ever sleep without wondering if they are under your sleeping bag??? Or crawling in your ear???

Well, of course the Swankmiesters would do camping up right. :snap:

LOL On our hikes we carry beef jerky, Aquafina, and granola bars.

Music~ I would imagine if you have enough people to talk with you wouldn't even hear it if you played it. That has happened.

Bears~ Have I mentioned I don't ever want to meet one? I have smoked a cigarette in my vehicle to get rid of the smell of food to try and make sure they don't break into it. And, I am a real cow about not eating in the car until we leave the park. I love my car and I mostly love that it carries me to Yosemite and other destinations. I don't want it to be opened up like a can of tuna.
