I don't even care anymore.

No dragon PLUS no flotsam and jetsam on Disneyland Birthday was not only a reversion to old crappy Fantasmic ... it was to old crappy limping along, stupid Maleficent on a lift Fantasmic-for-Morons.

Total Abyssmal Failtastic from which it is now impossible to recover.

SzczerbiakManiac 07-24-2009 10:41 AM

Well at least you're keeping an open mind....

Sorry, bored with it.

I'm not saying the show won't be good. Merely that the summer promotion is a total fail. My reliable sources, in fact, say the dragon will be ready by September, and that they now plan to keep Fantasmic going on weekends through Christmas just so they can use the dragon and claim it worked during Summer Nightastic.

Sorry, summer promotion main event starting in September is a fail to all reasonable people.

Main event not ready by Disneyland Birthday is a fail to me. ;)

We have reserved seats for next weekend. At least I don't have to camp out.

I'm sorry, I think even the old Fantasmic! is still good. The show is well done. Yeah, it's old but so is MSEP but both still draw the crowds.

innerSpaceman 07-24-2009 12:31 PM

Old Fantasmic was fine. Transvestite Maleficent retardedly waving and wailing on top of that Jack Lift for 10 minutes while fire erupts on the river for no apparent reason as a substitute for a non-working broomstick-with-dragon head is not so fine as a substitute for the penultimate finale, and never was.

Um, non-Mark Twain finale was never a good substitute either. These are both really substandard versions of Fantasmic. Not the kind of thing you base a summer special promotion on.

Visible curmudgeon bitchslap mojo. ;)

Gemini Cricket 07-24-2009 01:00 PM

So, iSm, what would be good alternatives to both things?

Chernabog 07-24-2009 01:39 PM

To keep it relevant for today's kids, Mickey should send a flaming burrito fart out over the water, igniting it on fire.

Then, a 50-foot tall animatronic Hannah Montana should claw her way out of the stage and call to Synergy the computer, which then causes the Jonas Brothers to sing the Disney Villains into submission.

It's dance-tacular!

I would construct a temporary dragon head to place on top of that lift, and then add a pair of collapsable wings to it that can be moved via pulleys, like the old dragon. It could seriously be done cheap and quick enough, and with proper lighting and some fog, actually look pretty decent until the new dragon is repaired.
