I'd say go ahead and wear it. But then I generally don't give a damn about traditions and superstitions. I wasn't aware of any general prohibition on wearing red but doing a quick Google search I see that it isn't an uncommon issue.

If you're concerned about it, I'd suggest asking the bride since hers is the only opinion you really have any reason to care about. Just tell her you found a dress you love but it is red/black and you know some more traditional viewpoints wouldn't approve and does she care.

Odds are she doesn't, but on the other hand if she does there have been far stupider bridezilla-triggered friendship schisms than that would be.

This is the dress:

I know it sounds petty, but it is the first dress I have bought in a long time.

Very pretty and you will look fab! Wear it proudly! :snap:

The only color I won't wear to a wedding is white. I'd never heard the kabosh on red before.

I have a sexy red dress that I wore to at least 3 weddings. I also wore reddish-burgandy as a bridesmaid, then wore THAT dress to at least 2 more weddings.

Love your dress - unless the bride is a good friend who is (oddly) traditional, go for it.

Nah; Susan sez I am just a big girl.

It's a BEAUTIFUL dress, MG, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it for a wedding. Vivid colors are no longer frowned upon, and yours isn't overwhelmingly vivid anyway (since it's masked by the black lace.) But it IS lovely!

Beautiful dress. Go wear it!

All this wedding talk.... I'm happy to be in "The Wedding Gap"

By now everyone I know that's a gonna get hitched is hitched and the kids are still years away from this subject. No weddings on the horizon for me anytime soon.

The dress is fantastic, MG! Wear it, wear it, wear it!

CP's rules are pretty correct - no white, but anything else goes.

And for me, I tend to get a bit of a stick up my ass about this sort of thing in the opposite direction. If the dress was a big enough deal that it would be shocking, horrible, or worse, ruin any friendships, well, then screw them for being a bride-zilla, mom-zilla or whatever else.

But that's just me, and I understand your concern. I have been in a similar position (which caused my current opinion).
