Hi!

I just got home about 45 minutes ago.

First off, so sorry I was swallowed up by the crowds last night and could not catch up with you all to give you a fond fare-the-well. As I told Not Afraid on the phone this morning, I felt like WC Fields, carving my way through a wall of human flesh, dragging my canoe behind me. By the time I got to my car, I was sure you had all parted company (and my cell phone was off). So, bye for now!

I've not read anyone's reports, but last night, for me, was a 100% A#1 blast. This was not due solely to the Divine Carol Channing (Razzzzzzzzzzzzzzzberries), but to the fabulous group of swankers in attendance. It was great to see everyone, even though we did not have huge amounts of time for individual conversation. Now that I have returned, I know the way and with an AP burning a hole in my pocket, I suspect you'll see me sooner rather than later. Certainly before the end of the year.

Pink Martini was terrific fun! Thanks to Chernabog and to Morrigoon who arranged it all. iSm gets a special mention, again, for organizing the best looking swanking that never happened. Why is it that now I'm back in SF, I'm craving the legendary Pink's chili dog? I guess I will have to save that for next time!

I also got the added treat of seeing mousepod at Disneyland (visual evidence coming soon as soon as I unpack my camera). I took many lousy pics at DL, so most will end up being 86'd.

Now, to catch up on LoT to see what else has been going on.

Thanks everybody for a great fun weekend!

Of course, I sure wish I had some cherry pie right about now. Snowflake, where did you go? Maybe you're bringing pie to LB. ;)

I have dance friends who claim to dance in the aisles at the Bowl but they were all at a benefit dance in Santa Monica for the former lead singer of Stompy Jones last night. Sitting down when the music is so wonderful is criminal.

It was a great show with wonderful company.:snap: I wish I was able to get together with all of you more often.

I'm so sorry we lost track of you at the end of the evening, Snowflake. We didn't get to say a proper goodbye. So you have to come back soon.

Snowflake, I'm doubly glad we got to chat at least a little bit when you hung back a bit after everyone "rushed off" in their big hurry to get down the hill.

Imagine my surprise then when, long after even you left, zapppop and I ventured from the Bowl ... only to find a mass of humanity still exiting down the slope. So we decided to wait it out on the steps till the crowd finally thinned ... but all the folks who rushed off 20 minutes earlier came stomping by. Hahahahaha!

Well, that allowed for several of our patented farewellagains, which is always fun. But Snowflake was the one missing in action ... ironically - likely well ahead of any of us.

I'm sorry zapppop and I got to the picnic so late, and missed spending time with all of you. We barely got to picnic, much less surrey.

The concert was waaaay better than I expected ... which I attribute mostly to the choice of saluting The Coconut Grove as the evening's theme, and then to the delightful singing and musicianship of Pink Martini. Great horn section. Loved crazy, muttering guitar player. And the chanteuse was absolutely breathtakingly awesome.

And even though I was expecting an appearance by Carol Channing, I was blown away by how much fun that was!!!

The fireworks were very pretty ... and the new "Indy" pyro effects were fantastico.

The program seemed short ... because I wanted more and more.

A great swanking!!!

FWIW, I think I may end up picking up some Henri Salvador music, I really liked his sound.

I was thinking about you guys last night, wishing I could be there. I can think of no better way to get one's swank on than with Pink Martini. Glad to hear that my recommending them isn't going to be written off as home town pride.

Oregon Public Broadcasting produced a great DVD of their New Year's Eve show in Portland two years ago. Great show!

Anyway, glad you had a great time. I was with you in spirit.

In fact, we finally "get" your "Doshvedania, Mio Bambino" remark :)

And I was highly amused by the fact that ever song was preceeded by:
"This is a song about a boy I met in a New York club...."

(okay, not *every* song... but still damned funny)

Consider it my little pink Easter egg.:)

China sang "Eugene" in concert for years before it showed up on their latest album. There was great joy in mudville.

A few photos

not too many from the Pink Martini evening, also a few Disneyland photos just for the heck of it to get this all over with at once.

I'm still learning how to use the camera (how's that for an excuse?)
