Well, it's nice to know the novelty of home ownership has not worn off yet.
We've spent most of this weekend's daylight hours doing yard work. You wouldn't think there'd be enough to do in our tiny patio with only a couple even tinier strips of dirt to actually grow things. But then, you probably haven't tried to rip an ivy plant out. That was an epic battle, and the foe is certainly heavily damaged. Only time will tell it was fatal, or if it's got some life left in it (my guess is the war's not over).
I was all excited about getting to replace the rotting fence that the ivy had engulfed. Disappointingly, our neighbors reminded us that the association is slated to beat us to it, theoretically in the next month or two (time to start pestering them). Would have been a fun project. Plus, they're going vinyl. We peeked at the ones that were already done, and they're actually pretty good looking, despite being vinly. But even really well done vinyl is just not the same as wood. Oh well, that effort and money will go to another project I'm sure.
Now we just have to do plant research. Anybody have any good shade gardening tips? We've got one planting area that gets no sun at all, not even filtered. It's not super dark, it gets a lot of indirect light off the wall and glass door across from it, but never actually sees sun.
