Once again, my recording of Lost was all frakked up. I'm wondering if ABC is doing something to mess with DVR recordings because this only happens with Lost. I think I'm going to watch it live next week and see if it happens then too.

So the mercenaries survived smokey's attack, eh. It sounded like they were getting slaughtered last week.

With future Jack's comment of "you're not even related to him" (talking about Aaron to Kate), I wonder if he knows that Claire is his half-sister.

Interesting thought re: Jack.

I was somewhat surprised that they survived. Since Ben obviously controls smokey, and smokey has killed others such as Mr. Eko, why would Ben send smokey to kill Eko yet not the mercenaries? If it is up to smokey and Ben just releases it, then why wuold it kill Eko and not the mercenaries?

WE GOT CONFIRMATION!

My Lost isn't messed up. I have an ancient TiVO Series 2 (for kicks).

I found it very interesting that they survived smokey's attack fairly unscathed (though one was super beat up), but Jack got sick. I didn't even think about the whole "people don't get sick" thing until Rose said something.

I'm guessing yes. They confirmed that Jack's dad was Claire's dad. I wonder if the reason Jack didn't want to see Aaron is because he reminds him of his sister. I thought Clarie was going to be found dead at the end. But we don't even know if she died. But we do know Sawyer choose to stay behind. I wonder if Jin did too.

I am not 100% positive that they used Juliet's voice to throw us off in the beginning of the episode (when an unidentified woman was in the shower), but it sounded like it. Regardless, it didn't sound like Kate, and since I was absolutely certain that the woman in the shower was Kate, I started off feeling rather annoyed. Hah. Also, a Ben episode is a hard act to follow no matter what, so I may be less critical of this episode when I eventually watch it again.

I did enjoy it, though I thought it was a bit all over the place. Mostly I had a strong feeling my old man crush was going to show up in this episode, and he did, so that made me happy. Yay, Jack's Dad, who may or may not be Jacob. (Or, maybe Jacob is able to make himself look like anyone he pleases....)

It was hard to get caught up in the Jack's island dilemma. I mean, no need to worry about whether or not he'd survive when we've seen him in future tense episodes. So I'm assuming that his getting sick had more to do with Rose's point: People don't get sick on the island; they get better. So, why did Jack get sick? And why did Locke, some time ago, begin to lose his ability to walk? Is it faith based? Is it a lesson they're being taught by the Island?

Are we sure that all of the mercenaries survived? I cannot recall how many there were in the episode before. I thought, for dramatic effect, they might all (save the leader, who is a somewhat recognizable actor these days) be killed. The scene of the smoke monster trailing through the sky and trees with violence reduced to the sound of people screaming was very striking. But others have survived the smoke monster's attack, and these guys are supposed to be pretty badass. I assume there's some reason for it, though, so until them...wait and see, I guess.

I do love that Claire saw her dad holding the baby. More and more, the writers are making it clear that these manifestations (ghost or other) are physical beings. Charlie could touch Hurley. Jack's dad could pick up the baby. I wonder if Miles could see Jack's dad because of his powers, or if Sawyer would have seen him, too. Anyway, Claire's disappearance at the end is creepier than just coming upon he dead body.

I thought the speed with which Jack hit his downward spiral was a bit forced, but it's in line with what we saw him going through in last year's season finale. Still, he was awfully quick to turn on Kate. Then again, she's still addicted to secrets, and those secrets being tied to a rival would be, I supposed, understandably upsetting.

And how much do I love Jeff Fahey on this show? BIG FAT LOVE.

And have any of you been watching the missing scenes that were (I think) shot before the season aired. A bit of retrofitting to tie current plot points back to older episodes...

A friend of mine can't record LOST on here DVR either!

It looked like there were fewer of them this week. I have a feeling Smokey took out a couple.

I don't think Ben controls Smokey. I think he just did something to set it off.

My take (and that of the producers on their podcast) is that Ben can summon Smokey, but really has no control over him.

It.

Whatever.

Pirate Bill 05-02-2008 02:00 PM

Not to totally derail this into a DVR trouble ticket, but...

I'm using DishNetwork's PVR 522. I've been using this model for about 5 years and the hard drive on my last one died a few weeks ago. I'm using a brand new one of the same model. It may or may not have newer firmware. I never had any problems recording Lost before. Lost still records, but about every 20 seconds the image freezes and goes all pixelated, then comes back. It takes about 2-3 seconds to recover. The sound is fine, just the picture is messed up. I don't experience this problem on any other show (and I only watch shows off the DVR, never live). Lost is also the only show I watch on ABC, so to see if it was an ABC thing I recorded some of Jimmy Kimmel live. No problems there. I'll record it and watch it live next week and compare the live to the recorded to see if this issue still comes up.

BarTopDancer 05-02-2008 02:37 PM

Google is my friend.

It looks like you may need to upgrade your firmware. It looks like its' a pretty common issue with the 522.

cirquelover 05-02-2008 05:35 PM

My DVR or tv has been doing the pixel thing too, especially during Lost, and it's getting rather annoying. I feel your pain!

Jack and kate alone once defeated Smokey(Locke was there too but was kinda on Smokeys side) in a tug of war for Locke....not a big stretch to imagine 5 well trained mercs couldn't survive his fury.

Excellent! We know that Jack mentioned during the trial that there were originaly 8 members of Oceanic that survived the crash.....Since we know that Sawyer chose to stay that means he could have come home. Ok, what do all of the people who we know had a choice in whether they stayed or left the Island have in common? Sayid, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, and Sun(Aaron most likely did not choose to leave the Island since he's just a baby).

Give up?

Every one of them was far away from the Swan Hatch when it imploded and turned the sky purple:eek:

The only other Lostie who was far from the Hatch at this time was Jin...whether or not he had a choice in leaving or not remains to be seen....but if my theory here is correct he was the only other person who had a choice.

Now wait a sec you might be saying. "Aaron wasn't far away when it blew"

Precisely.....I don't think they were supposed to take Aaron away from the Island and I also think Jack knows this and That is probably the reason he is freaking out...imho:)

Especially when it is followed by a Jack centered episode.....a little of him goes a long way and I wish the writers would realize that.

Maybe he's smokey....after all, the smoke detector was sure acting up;)
