I don't have a dog in the race (since I'll never see this and never saw Glowfest) but so far that is the first review that I've seen comparing it unfavorably to Glowfest.

And yes, there's overpriced booze.

Well, i can tell you sight-unseen that if there's no street party on Hollywood Boulevard, it's by definition inferior to GlowFest.

well, my definition.

I didn't get to check out laserman or the arcade or the sneak peak 3D movie clip because we were only had time to do a walk around and get a feel for the event, but my first impression was definitely meh. The whole of Hollywood Blvd looked cool and drew you in (The light cycle projections were neat!), but there was nothing going on on that street that remotely resembled a "party." Once we turned the corner and saw the club-like area they had set up, it just seemed smushed into that little area and very much like any other nightclub you could visit elsewhere. It was much darker than GlowFest, but then again the TRON theme is much darker so that was to be expected. Some people were dancing and the TRON outfits the cast members had on were definitely awesome, but it just didn't catch me. I felt no desire to dance. I saw no younger kids having the best time ever like you would often see at GlowFest.

I'm hoping my first impression was completely off and I will feel some sort of vibe next time I get a chance to check it out more thoroughly.

As for things I thought were better than GlowFest, the TRON theming definitely looks better during the daytime park hours than GlowFest did.

I really want to go there with $40 and play Flynns arcade all nite :)

Aww, Grumpy Gus! I went on Friday night, and the place was packed. No, no street party out front, you actually have to enter the party by passing under a Recognizer and into the "backlot" area. The "street" is foreshortened because of trolley construction, so they used the available space quite well. I spent about 3 hours in the party area, which is about 2:30 more than I'd spent at one time at Glowfest. Somehow, with '80's music inside Flynn's, and techno out front, I felt more comfortable grooving on the cute boys. ;) Flynn's is a very cool re-creation of the set from the original movie, complete with 25 cent Flynn's Arcade branded tokens. The best, cheapest souvenir I've ever gotten from Disney. The "spoiler reel," boy, do you have a gift for expectation reduction, is about a 10 minute presentation which uses the lighting and fan effects from the Muppet Theatre. EVERY TRAILER IN EVERY THEATRE SHOULD BE DONE THIS WAY. I loved it. The audience loved it. I loved the audience, and they loved me. I'd like to think. Hot, hot, Tron boy dancers, Laserman, a far-superior-to-Glowfest light show, 6 year-olds and booze, and horribly confused families trying to get to and from Monster's Inc. because they were booted out of DL for the Halloween party. What's not to love? I know you know how I felt about Glowfest, so I assume you'll dismiss what I have to say about elecTRONica, but give it a shot. Remember that a lot of the Glowfest body count was due to the fact that it was summer break, and try to hit elecTRONica on a non-school night. If nothing else, the geekboy attendance level is much higher for this one. FLYNN LIVES!

innerSpaceman 10-13-2010 11:38 AM

Sorry, but that's what I liked about GlowFest - and everything I've read about the impetus for ElecTRONica was they were trying to out GlowFest the success of GlowFest. Anyone's mileage may vary ... but if the things I thought were rad about GlowFest are entirely missing from ElecTRONica, I'm going to personally consider it a Fail.

If Disney Entertainment didn't want comparisons with GlowFest, perhaps they should have kept their jealous diva rants out of the fan press and not have then staged, oh, a dance party event in the Hollywood area of DCA.

Do I get uncurmudgeon points for my earlier raves about GlowFest and Bollywood dancers and the tons of things I've liked about Disneyland and other places and events over the years, or are varied opinions based on things-as-they-are only good for one-way curmudgeon status confirmation? :p

And now having read Gn2Dlnd's review, I'm mildly encouraged. I guess I'd like to see for myself, but I don't think I'll be at Disneyland again for quite a while.

I wish I knew you guys all more. I ran into someone who dances with LindyHop. We played a game of air hockey. He kicked my butt. But it was fun.

I only hope it isn't as crowded all of the time. I am considering going back this Friday as my sons AP expires the 24th {only good the Fridays}. Not sure, though. He does have school......

I do not even know how much money we spent on tokens. My son can last a long time on the games he is good at but the rest were all games we are used to NOT having to spend tokens on. :0)

Sorry, but you're so far in the hole, even if you wrote/rolled 10 consecutive Yahtzees, it still wouldn't bring you out of the negative. :p
