May you have zero, nada, zippo, no Adventures in Moving!

Here's to opportunity, new places, new faces, and e-z access to casino buffets.

I hope it works out great for you and there is always something to do in Vegas!

She covered that by mentioning the casino buffets.

The moving trucks prices! Sheesh! When we moved here we had a 26' truck from Penske that was 8 feet high. It took 2 trips.

This time, that same truck rental to Vegas is nearly $1000. Ridiculously priced compared to the Uhaul 26' truck that's 6 feet high and $300.

So - not only will we only be taking one trip, we'll have to use a smaller truck as well. This means some serious getting rid of stuff. I'm both dreading it and looking forward to it. I tend to accumulate things... you never know when you're going to need whatever it is... and don't want to buy it again if I already have it. And I think I probably have some pack rat tendencies as well.

Aside from that, we had family over for high school graduation today and my Mom hugged me repeatedly, saying I was going to be getting that a lot as she wouldn't be able to as much after we moved. Which now makes me a bit choked up. I think I'm going to miss my Mom so much more than I expected.

At least Vegas is still not too hard for the occasional trips. Better than the east coast or Europe. Still hard to be so far away from loved ones, though. My DD moved to the IE, and I hardly ever see her, and it's only 1 1/2 hrs away.

My father-in-law lived in Henderson. It's just far enough away from downtown to be laid back, but still close enough to easily visit. I could never live there, too hot and hard to garden. I'd go crazy with out my garden.

Good luck to you, I hope all goes well!

Be careful of the UHaul trucks - their weight limits are not very high, and you're supposed to stop at weigh stations (in California) if they're open. (We lucked out and the one we passed was closed)

Good to know. My husband used to be in the moving business so I hope he's aware of that sort of stuff. We'll have to find out the details.

When I was checking for our move, if you stopped at one (or drove by and they had police nearby who felt like chasing you), was that you had to take out everything over the weight limit and discard it there at the weigh station (unless someone can come get it right away), and pay a fine consisting of a base amount plus $1 for every pound over the limit. If it's a weekend, they're probably not open, though.
