I'm going to agree to disagree.
I think that he is not trying to compare the per screen takes per either film.
I think he is making an article about Disney, and the opening of TSD, and throwing in the numbers for the weekend, and its throwing his article off.

he in whole wants to say, I feel, that shaggy dog didnt bring it what it needed to in order to pull the company from a slump.

And that THHE was expected to do more, which seems not relevant to the rest of the conversation.

ISM, I agree, there is no magic number to making a hit. However, I believe there is an industry expectation.
That said, the work day is over, and I agree to disagree. :)
