my dog...who pretty much will chase ANYTHING she happens to catch in her yard stumbled across one cutting through our yard one night late. one loud hiss like steam escaping from a pipe.....no barking, no nothing, she was just pointing and looking at me as if to say 'do something! I aint touchin it!' we decided to go have a snack instead. |
Our dogs barked back. My parents had to get them into the house where they couldn't see the yard and wait for them to go away.

I saw an opossum today. In the street. Dead as a doornail. As sad as it was, I still had to laugh. His hind legs were streight up in the air and his arms out to the sides and it reminded me of William Shatner's part in Over The Hedge. If half his head wasn't gone I'd wonder if he was realy dead....

Generally you don't have to worry about cats and possums. A possum won't attack unless it is cornered and your average cat will have more than enough sense to not go after one.
Dogs and possums are the real problem since dogs are the stupid. Growing up ours would always corner them and be just smart enough to not actually attack. We just shoot the possum (they killed our chickens to get at the eggs). My dog had a really good possums story involving the trunk of a car, a pissed of possum, a big wrench, and an absolute refusal to die. |
