Which cast did you like better? I think the first cast was far superior.

Didn't care for the second Mouse. :( He wasn't as warm as the first. More bitchy/trashy & I don;t remember his character changing that much through the books.

Agreed. Although the 2nd Michael looked more like how he was described in the books - curly hair and mustache.

Ok, I loved the PBS series of the first set of books, but never have read any of these. So, how do these read in book format - weren't they serialized in a newspaper?

Whichever series had Laura Linney in it was the one I watched and really liked. I believe I read the first book, but never read any others. It is a rare instance where I like a film version better than the original lit.

IIRC, an underwear contest. NOT as a contestant. I'm wearing short denim shorts, a "love" t-shirt, and my hair is really long. It was shot at the closed Ambassador Hotel in L.A., the same hotel where Bobby Kennedy was assassinated.

I'll look for you as soon as I figure what IIRC means...

I assume it's at the Jockey dance contest that Mouse enters - where he's sprung by Jon

a long time ago, (in a far away land), i visited a girlfriend that i had met when she worked Magic Shop and I worked at Tobacco...

she lived in SF and had a new job... she suggested i read "this book", (Tales of the City) while she was at work and we would go out sightseeing when she got home.

I read that book cover to cover!:snap:

that night i bought all of the titles.

i really enjoyed how Maupin intertwined real-life current events and landmarks with the characters and storyline.

yes, they were serialized in the San Fransisco Chronicle.

the books have fast-paced short chapters.
