I 'spect you fixed it up so well it suddenly looked like a good time to sell and make a profit off your labor. :(

She might have a friend or relative that she'd like to rent to. I'm guessing that Lakewood isn't Berkeley, but you still might want to see if there are any local tenant advocacy groups that might tell you if you have a right of first refusal or any other protections. Good luck.

I am so sorry JW-:( I hope a blessed door opens for you.

innerSpaceman 01-17-2007 08:11 PM

Well, this has to mean that there's something better for you out there, and you are meant to be somewhere else.

That said, and however inappropriate this may be .... you now know the risks of putting a lot of work into a rental. While you should always endeavor to make your home space wonderful, you must also be wary of too much effort that might be worthless at a moment's fvcked up notice.

Hey, I thought a new law came in to action the beginning of this year~ landlords have to give a 60 day notice to vacate.

Same would apply to you, BTD.

Where to find this in print?

Found it.

Landlords must give 60 days’ notice of eviction to tenants who have been renting from them for at least a year and are not at fault for eviction (AB 1169).

Thanks CP and MW. Me, I've only been here since October.

Where are you looking to live JW? I found a bunch of stuff, just none that I liked, or could afford.

MouseWife 01-17-2007 09:02 PM

Thanks for finding that, CP. :snap:

Sorry it doesn't help you, BtD.

I hope you find the ideal places for you guys.

This house we've lived in for almost 11 years was found by accident. We had seen it driving by many times, empty. Never was there a sign or number to call. We settled on a smaller more expensive house with a lousy floor plan, bad yard, ugly colors and wall paper, and on a bad part of the street. When I went to put the money down on that place, I saw a listing {in the realtors office} for this place. The phone number was missing a digit. No one could call for it. We got it. My best buddy lives across the court.

I wish for you guys to be so lucky. :)

She can probably get around the new law because we won't have been in here a year until the end of February.

All of the improvements we made are portable - and they're going with us!

Maine is a great street! We'd love to have you in the 'hood. Just don't go below 19th Street. Let me know if you want me to do a drive by.
