I love that movie. Now I want to see the laserdisc that mousepod is refering to.

The DVD also contains the restored version... no need to invest in antiquated technology, cirquelover.

(Unless you want to buy my LD player with 1000+ discs... it'll make my move a lot lighter)

So is the DVD still in print, or is it now in the "collectible" status?

It's still in print - and for under $20, it's well worth it. You get the long version of the movie plus a few nifty supplements.

My opinion...yet another DVD that aptly demonstrates why editors exist. I've never seen the non-restored version so I don't know which all bits were added back and which were in the original release. But the extended version of Portobello Road felt entirely superfluous and interminably long. And I was unaware going in that there had been any restoring of anything. So I was hardly surprised to learn afterwards that it was a patch-job.

Having never seen the film before that, and not knowing that the song wasn't part of the original, I felt that the movie suffered because of it.
Glad to know the original editors agreed with me.

That said, I am unaware of what else was restored and nothing else stuck out as much out of place as that number, so it may very well be that the bulk of the restoration work was an improvement. But I would have enjoyed the movie a good bit more without the 8 minute interlude of boredom.

Never seen it, and unlike other well known Disney films I've missed, I don't eve know what it is about.

innerSpaceman 04-03-2007 11:59 AM

Um, that song is most certainly in the original.

I've never seen the "restored" version, so I could hardly know that song otherwise.

That said, though it's a charming curiousity ... B&B is not one of my faves, and I won't be going to the Aero unless there's a group outting.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. I'm thinking.... hells yes I wanna go!

I loved this movie. My grandmother had a bunch of disney read along records. You had the record and then the jacket was also a book. Bednobs and Broomsticks was our favorite one. Well toss up between that and 101 Dalmations. We'd listen to them for hours.

It's 6 minutes longer in the restored version. I liked the first 2 minutes. The next 6......
