I just watched Runaway Bride last night; it was one of the few episodes not posted on-line. I'm really enjoying David Tennant as the Doctor. I love his run-on rants. :) There's also the sense of control of the situation that seemed to be missing for a while. He may not actually be in control, but at least he's not panicking, and if something can be done, he will, and he always turns lucky breaks to his full advantage. You always believe he is in some sort of control of things. I like that.

The bride, yes. There are always peripheral characters. The robots have appeared in another episode though that is not relevant to their evilness. The phone booth is his travel/time machine. It's large inside which generally freaks people out and is good for a giggle once you get used to the schtick. The stick is a sonic screwdriver, which yes, at times seems to be somewhat magical in the manner of technology, if sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic. He also has a piece of psychic paper, which tells the reader whatever they need to see to believe the Doctor.

I want.

Although I'm not educated enough to know the episode you mentioned - the only good ones (with Tom Baker) are even sometimes not that great due to rampant sillyness in the guise of serious science. The actors were often terrible as well.

If you don't like Red Dwarf or Python, don't even try.
