Well then good thing it didn't come in second on the surveys.

College students took this poll? Only 237 and THESE are the answers?

Somethings rotten in Denmark. Was is all one sorority? All seniors? Mixed genders in the same room? Names on the polls? A peer-reviewed study....
that took time...
No way. Baised answers. They thought someone was looking.

I was a little confused on this point. I THINK that it meant that from whatever their sample was, they gleaned 237 distinct answers, not that only 237 students took the poll. I THINK. If not, if they really mean that their sample size was 237 people, worthless.

Interesting, I'll have to re-read it.
I took it to mean the sample was 237, and yes, I agree, thats not a worthwile group size.

from the article...

Quote:

Meston and colleague David Buss first questioned 444 men and women — ranging in age from 17 to 52 — to come up with a list of 237 distinct reasons people have sex. They ranged from “It’s fun” which men ranked fourth and women ranked eighth to “I wanted to give someone else a sexually transmitted disease” which ranked on the bottom by women.

Once they came up with that long list, Meston and Buss asked 1,549 college students taking psychology classes to rank the reasons on a one-to-five scale on how they applied to their experiences.

Ponine 08-01-2007 04:47 PM

Oh fine... Scrooge can read. Who knew? :p

OKay, but then they get the answers.... then they ask pshyc students to rank the answers based on how they applied to THEMSELVES?

<throws hands in air and walks away>

LOL... I had the same question before I had the chance to read the article.

Just trying to be helpful

Just trying to be a blessing *sniff*

Hmm, so it was a 2-stage process, if I'm reading this correctly. One survey to come up with categorizations and a second to apply those categorizations to personal experience. Odd.

ETA: oops, Scrooge was faster with the copy-paste

LSPoorEeyorick 08-01-2007 05:01 PM

Wait... I'm a little confused. Why aren't the answers plausible?

The survey methodology is seriously flawed
