Ah, I missed that part. The also explains the different course (I thought you were just describing the beginning).

The Swanie family has made it back to even toastier AZ

All I can say is, man did we have an awesome time. I ran the whole race with Lil' Swanie and she absolutely rocked! I can't tell you how proud of her I am. We finished in a side-by-side sprint to the finish in 39:40. The 3.1 miles we ran doesn't include the extra mile(s) we spent zigzaging through the throngs of walkers and strollers. I doubt we had more that 20 paces in a straight line for the whole race. For us trying to run jog/run the race, it really was more of an obstacle course with a little jogging thrown in.

Besides being ungodly hot for even us AZ people, we had such a blast. Lil' Swanie must have told me "Mom, this is the best birthday EVER" about 20 times on Sunday. And to top if off, she proudly wore her "My Mommy runs faster than your Mommy" t-shirt after the race. In fact, she had the AP photo person get the t-shirt and her DL Happy Birthday pin in her new AP photo!

For a kid that was really nervous about running a 5K, I think she has the bug now. She's already asked to run the Iron Girl 5K here in December, and I'm going to try the Race for the Taste 10K at Epcot in October!

I very happy for all of you who ran/walked. I'm also happy I was in AC for most of that day (and the ones surrounding it). ;)

The Team in Training group always has such a great program for someone interested in finishing a marathon. I have heard nothing but positive stories from clientèle I have helped with food supplements. I would love the time and opportunity to try it out.
